New Jersey Self Storage Facilities get Really Involved in their Communities

by John Stevens November 17, 2011 5:01 PM

Often times when it comes to giving back to the community, individuals will stand out from the rest, whether they are individual people from all walks of life or individual businesses. Rarely can you find an industry that makes community involvement as common a practice as the self storage industry does in New Jersey.

As the weather gets colder there will be many people in the New Jersey area in need of a coat in order to stay warm during the chilly months of the year. To help make sure that people in need don’t have to freeze, the good people at Storage Post Self Storage are  teaming up with Jersey Cares to collect coats for the less fortunate.

"We are very involved in community outreach and local events, like festivals and youth programs. We encourage employees to take initiative in the neighborhood, and this year our New Jersey stores are helping by giving the gift of warmth," said Storage Post Chief Operations Officer Jack Chaney.

Starting on November 15, the Storage Post locations in Linden and Jersey City will help Jersey Cares collect coats by acting as drop-off locations. They hope to help Jersey Cares collect 50,000 coats by December 15.

Endeavors like this are not uncommon in the Garden State. Last November, Westy Self Storage opted to get involved with numerous charities rather than pick just one or two and leave other ones that needed help out. They called it their “Six for Six Donation Drive.”

“We’re very proud to continue our Six for Six Donation Drive. We have been able to assist so many deserving charities through this program and we look forward to another successful drive,” said Tim Mincin, district director of Westy Self Storage, Chatham. “A very special thank you to all who participate in our program. It would not be nearly as fruitful without the contributions of so many.”

Benefitting from the drive were a variety of charities: Foster and Adoptive Family Services, Dress for Success Morris County, SHIP – Summit Helping Its People, Santa Claus Shop, ReRead, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots.

Last November, when the state of New Jersey was in the midst of a severe blood shortage, another self storage facility stepped up to help. Hampshire Self Storage held a blood drive at their Montville facility and offered a discount to anyone that donated blood.
