Around this time of year it is not unusual to see many businesses and people getting into the spirit of giving by either donating to a charity or helping one hold a donation drive. The idea of someone not being able to enjoy Christmas the way it should be enjoyed seems to move many people to do something for those less fortunate.
Access Self Storage in Dallas, Texas, like many self storage facilities is getting involved in the holiday spirit. On December 10 they will be hosting their Second Annual Community Christmas Party. They have put out a general invitation for anyone that wants to enjoy some Christmas cheer to come on over.
“We love getting everybody out for Christmas. It’s fun to take a little break and play some games,” says company Owner Doug Hunt. Visitors will enjoy a variety of activities including a cookie decorating contest, photos with Santa, and a raffle to win Christmas lawn decorations and a 32” television.”
Never one to pass up a chance to help the less fortunate, raffle tickets will not cost money, but will instead require a donation of five non-perishable food items.
Like many self storage facilities, the giving never stops at Access Self Storage. At the beginning of the year, the company made its own new year’s resolution to help out a variety of different charitable organizations all year long. Not only were they going to do it, but the company wanted to give customers the chance to do the same. To encourage customers to do so Access Self Storage said it would match donations up to $2000.
“We’re hoping that our customers will choose to make a difference this year instead of making a resolution that won’t hold up. And we want to help them do it,” says Hunt. “Donate this year and we’ll match it!”
Over the course of 2011, a number of different charities have benefitted from the work done by Access Self Storage. The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital was the first recipient of the year in January. They helped a group of students from local church raise money so that they could go on tour by hosting a garage sale as well as donating space to store items all year. All summer long Access Self Storage hosted car washes for a number of different organizations.
“We want to encourage people to get involved in their communities, in small and in big ways,” says Hunt.
Not just at Christmas time, but all year long.
