As the year draws to a close, you would think that news in the self storage industry would be rather quiet. Not so! Here’s a small roundup of some exciting things going on around the country.
The McGaelic Group LP purchased the Date Palm Self Storage Facility in Cathedral City, CA, for $5.8 million dollars. The facility, located at the northeast corner of Converse Rd. and Date Palm Dr. in Inland Empire's Riverside County, was build in 2002, has 552 units totaling 103,523 square feet on 4.8 acres. (That breaks down to roughly $56 per square foot.) At the time of the sale, it had 75% occupancy. The facility will be rebranded under the Extra Space Storage brand. So, all of us here at Extra Space Storage say, “Welcome!” We are happy that you have joined our team.
Are you an NFL fan? If so, you’ll be interested to know that StorageMart announced it will give away a pair of tickets to the Edmonton Oilers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game that will be played at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The game is on February 6, 2012.
Why would a self storage company give away hockey tickets? Sarah Little, Interactive Marketing Director at StorageMart explains, "Local youth and adult sports leagues often use our storage space in the off-season. The Canadian Football League's Argonauts rent self-storage here and our customers are sports fans - Canadians are sports fans! Basically we look for any excuse to give something away that we know our customers will enjoy."
All you have to do to enter the drawing is go to StorageMart Canada’s Facebook. The form is easy to fill out because it only asks for your name, email address and your prediction of who you think will win the game. Be sure to enter before midnight (CST) February 1, 2012. The winners will be announced on February 2, 2012 on the Facebook page.
The California Self Storage Association (CSSA), has added an online Career Center to its website. This Career Center is a place where people who are looking for a job in the self-storage industry can find job opportunities. CSSA members and non-members can search for positions by job type (such as facility or district manager, regional or area manager), or for full- or part-time openings. This is a great service for both those looking for employment and for those looking for employees.
