Lake Tahoe, the Ritz Carlton Hotel, and the Self Storage Association Winter Executive Ski Workshop - a beautiful place, a world-class hotel, and a professional development workshop. What a winning combination.
The Self Storage Association will host their 26th Annual SSA Winter Executive Ski Workshop at Lake Tahoe on January 30 through February 2. An opening night reception will be held January 30. Attendees can pick up their conference registration materials, network with industry friends and enjoy a variety of foods and beverages at the reception.
On Tuesday, Mike Burnam, CEO of StorageMart, and Cris Burnam, President of StorageMart, will discuss new technologies in the self storage industry and how these developments affect public versus private self storage owners. They will also describe how their company uses real-time operating data and digital media. There will also be a question and answer session at the end. In the next workshop, Mike Scanlon will give an overview of key issues in the industry and state and federal legislation initiatives. A round table discussion will follow his presentation.
On Wednesday, Neal Gussis will discuss capital markets, where the banking sector is heading and how it will affect self storage businesses, and then review loan workout options. Then, there will be a panel discussion about managing occupancy, how today's customers are different from those in past years, and making decisions about buying and selling based on available capital and terms.
Thursday, Carolos Kaslow and Scott Zucker will discuss changes in the laws that affect the self storage industry and compliance to the laws. Mark Wellman will be the speaker at the closing session. Mark was paralyzed in a mountain climbing accident in 1982 and is now a motivational speaker. He will talk about overcoming adversity and developing self-confidence.
Conference attendees, who ski and snowboard, will get discounted lift tickets. They can also participate in the SSA Dual Slalom Race that will be held on Wednesday afternoon. Also, for those who are interested, yoga sessions for people of all levels will be held in the mornings before breakfast. A gourmet meal will be served for the closing night banquet on Thursday evening, February 2. Medals will be given to the slalom winners.
