Sequels can Work in the Self Storage Industry as well as Hollywood

by Kim Kilpatrick January 9, 2012 2:24 PM

Typically, whenever a movie spawns a sequel they are not as good as the original; it is just too hard for a concept to be as interesting and fresh the second time around as it was the first. It’s like the second slice of pizza relative to the first. You are still happy to eat it, but it doesn’t bring you as much joy as the first.

However, there has been a rare occasion where the sequel has actually been better than the original. Take the second effort by the good people at StorageMart to see how much _______ could fit into a self storage unit. Last time it was Thanksgiving dinner; this time—bubble bath.

On January 8, 2012, they decided to see how much bubble bath could fit into a self storage unit; the choice of day just so happened to coincide with National Bubble Bath Day (yes, there is a day dedicated to bubble bath).

When all was said and done they managed to fit enough bubble bath for almost 5,000 baths, miles and miles of toilet paper (10), over 7,000 baby wet wipes, close to 15,000 tissues, and around 30 rubber duckies (because you can’t have a bubble bath without rubber duckies!).

After the question of the day was answered, all the goods involved in figuring out how much bubble bath could fit in a self storage unit were donated to a woman’s shelter in Kansas City, Missouri, called the Hope House.

Much like other good sequels, StorageMart has stated that they plan on doing many more videos in hopes of finding out how much of something can fit into a self storage unit (and then be donated to charity).

The original endeavor to see how much of something cold fit into a self storage unit was done back in November 2011. In honor of Thanksgiving, the idea was to see how much turkey dinner could fit into a 5X5 self storage unit.

That day they were able to get close to 200 can of corn, 120 cans of cranberry sauce, a couple dozen boxes of rice, almost 400 bottles of water, over 60 pounds of potatoes, 14 large boxes of sweet potato casserole, 216 bags of stuffing, and just under 200 cans of chicken broth.

When they were done they donated over 1,500 pounds of food and water to The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri.
