Is there a person in the world that does not know who the King of Rock n’ Roll is? Sing a few lines to ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ or ‘Blue-Suede Shoes’ while walking through the grocery store and you are bound to hear at least one other person join in. There is just something about the music of Elvis Aaron Presley that has managed to transcend time.
Few people have impacted music and society quite like Elvis Presley did before his untimely death back in 1977; the thousands of visitors that go to his home, Graceland, are proof of that. Ask any of them if they would like to own a piece of history about the King and you will see a group of people willing to do just about anything in order to honor the man who accused thousands of being nothing but a hound dog.
Luckily, they don’t have to do much thanks to Dave Hester of Storage Wars and the good people at StorageTreasures.com, a website that helps people find self storage auctions and self storage facilities.
Fans of the A&E reality show may remember during the first season a unit that Hester bought at auction that was filled with stacks of newspapers that were dated August 17, 1977, the day after Elvis Presley died from a prescription drug overdose at the age of 42. Included in the bundles were copies of the Memphis Press-Scimitar (a special edition printed five days after Elvis Presley’s death) and Commercial Appeal (the first paper printed following his death).
StorageTreasures.com has made copies of the papers available via giveaway on the company’s website and Facebook page.
“From the day A&E aired the Storage Wars episode featuring Dave Hester’s discovery of thousands of these newspapers the interest was huge, and it continues to be quite strong.” StorageTreasures President and Founder Lance Watkins continued, “We have had hundreds of requests for these newspapers, and since Dave Hester was kind enough to supply a batch of them to us, we have been able to make them available as part of member contests and giveaways almost on a weekly basis.
This is not the first time that Elvis Presley has turned up inside a self storage unit. Back in 2010, one lucky auction goer purchased a self storage unit that was once owned by former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich; inside—was a six foot statue of the King.
