New Mobile Device Application from SmartStop(R) Self Storage

by Holly Robinson January 24, 2012 2:04 PM

Every day, more and more companies create applications for smart phones. With these applications, you can read magazines, check your e-mail, post a comment to Facebook, track your weight loss, make reservations at hotels, and rent movies. Almost every industry has a supporting application and the self storage industry isn't any different.

SmartStop® Self Storage announced the launch of its new smartphone application called SmartTracker Inventory List (SM). This free application works on the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and also on Android smartphones. It works in conjunction with the SmartStop website through the "Manage My Inventory" feature.  Customers can manage their accounts and also make online purchases from their mobile device.

"We are passionately committed to leveraging the latest technology to engage our customers and provide them with an easier, smarter and more enriching self-storage experience," said H. Michael Schwartz, SSTI's chairman and CEO. "The Manage My Inventory service is an extension of that. It's like having a window into your unit from wherever you happen to be."

The SmartTracker Inventory List (SM) has a special feature that uses a QR code. A QR code is a square pattern of black marks on a white background. In 1994, Toyota first developed these codes to track vehicles during the manufacturing process. Today, these codes can be almost virtually any kind of information. It can be links to a website, extra information about products, or even price discounts or coupons.

In the SmartStop Self Storage Inventory Tracker, customers can create and print up a code and put it on the boxes in their storage unit. Then, they can use the codes to keep track of the contents in the boxes in their storage unit. With one quick scan of their smart phone, they can see the list of items in a box – without having to open or unpack it.

The Inventory Tracker synchronizes the items listed in the QR codes with the SmartStop® website. This means that the information is available to customers 24/7 through either the app on their mobile device or through the website.

Users can use the application to search and reserve additional units, pay their bill, or purchase storage and packing supplies.

Non-SmartStop customers can also use this application.  They will just need to register (which is free of charge).

"We felt it was important to share this extremely helpful app with everyone who needs it," said Michele Cataldo, Vice President of Marketing for SSTI. "You can use it to organize and track everything from the Christmas decorations stored in your garage to boxes of shoes stacked in your closet."
