If someone chooses the self storage industry as a career, there aren't classes to take at a university that are specific to the industry. A person can take business courses and learn about business in general but as a rule there aren't courses that provide specific knowledge and skills that are key to running a successful self storage facility. However, there is a nationwide self storage education and mentoring firm that teaches and trains and mentors those interested in working in this area. That educational program is offered by Self Storage Profits Inc.
Self Storage Profits Inc., based in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides education to interested people through Home Study Systems, software, live seminars, newsletters, e-books, online webinars, and one-on-one mentoring. Recently, they assisted four of their students in the acquisition of four separate facilities: one in Shelbyville, Kentucky, one in St. Louis, Missouri, one in Danville, Illinois, and one in Bettendorf, Iowa.
The students used the SBA 7(A) loan program, community banks, private lenders, and backing from the sellers to make the transactions.

Self Storage Profits Inc. will hold a Self Storage Academy in Indianapolis June 21 to June 23 and one in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dates are yet to be announced for the academy in North Carolina.
