A common reason why many self storage units are rented is to allow those who are older to clear up clutter around the home in an effort to make it easier for them to get around, a task that can become difficult as we age. Many self storage companies try to do even more to help those in their twilight years as well as those with life-limiting illnesses.
Anyone that has been the beneficiary of hospice care knows what a tremendous help it can be. For many families it can be very difficult to do what they need to do in order to get by as well as take care of an elderly relative or someone with a life-limiting illness. The help that hospice care workers give in such trying times can really make a difficult time easier to handle.
Self storage companies are known for being heavily involved in charity and non-for-profit organizations including places that are involved in hospice care. One UK self storage facility, Armadillo Self Storage, has announced that it will be supporting a local charity called Butterwick Hospice Care.
“We were delighted to help out such a worthwhile local charity and look forward to working with them in the future on local fundraising events,” said Scott McDonald of Armadillo Self Storage.
The facility will be donating the use of self storage unit to Butterwick and will be setting up a donation station so that people can donate clothes and other things to the charity which will be in turn sold to finance the work that they do.
Armadillo Self Storage is not the only company that has gotten involved with hospice care organizations. Last year the good people at U-Lock Mini Storage donated the use of one of their self storage units to the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
The Society works to help elderly who are in transition. Part of what they do is take away things that people no longer want which they end up selling at a thrift store.
“It didn’t take us long after we opened our thrift store four years ago to realize we needed more space,” said Daphne Catterson, Hospice Shoppe manager.
