Announcing EXTRAordinary Employee of the Quarter Winners for Q3 2022

At Extra Space Storage, we believe our greatest asset is our employees. From the people who work in our National Sales Center to the managers operating our self storage facilities across the nation, the team behind Extra Space Storage is what makes our company better every single day.

Each quarter, we give out the EXTRAordinary Employee of the Quarter award. These aren’t given to people who just do their jobs. They’re awarded to those who go above and beyond in demonstrating our core values, and the nominations are submitted anonymously by other employees, team leaders, or entire departments.

Below are the EXTRAordinary winners from Q3 2022, featuring the nomination statements from their peers!

Bre Greene – Workforce Administrator

“Bre does so much for the National Solutions Center (NSC)! Not only does she help as a lead agent, she also helps to create training videos, power points, and many other informational posts for the NSC agent team. Bre is very detailed in the content and responses she shares with NSC agents. This detail helps our NSC agent team understand how to handle whatever issues or opportunities come up with our customers who call the NSC. She does more than just her job, she goes the extra mile to ensure we all provide the best customer experience we can. Go, Bre!”

Mark Robison – Senior Accountant

“When Extra Space acquired Bargold Storage Systems earlier this summer, we knew we would have a lot of work to do in understanding the business based on its unique operating plan that is unlike any other storage property we have managed in the past. One particular challenge has been making the best use of Bargold’s financial records and combining some of them with Extra Space. With Mark’s Excel skills, he has been most helpful to combine data and generate a custom report of our financials so we see all revenue and expenses to run the business. His efforts included multiple revisions, which he completed with innovation, suggestions, and a smile. Thank you, Mark, for all of your help!”

Matt Luba – District Manager

“Matt has stepped into a mentor role in our hybrid division and stepped up in a large way. Matt is always available, even answering the phone when he shouldn’t at times (Vacations are for vacationing, Matt!) This has been instrumental in my development and those around me as they embark on new career paths. Whenever there is a question, any time, Matt is there to support. This is a great illustration of our culture and helps to develop excellent inter-division camaraderie. Also of note is Matt’s willingness to help immediately. While prepping for the district meetings, there was a need for coverage, and in communicating with Matt for ideas, he immediately offered support from his team. Without that support, we would have had difficulty covering. Thanks to Matt (and others), we were able to manage the coverage. Overall, Matt makes it easy to ask questions and know there is no judgment when doing so. Thanks for living the culture, Matt!”

Matthew Woolley – Operations Specialist

“Matt exemplifies our core values at the Salt Lake Support Center every day, but Excellence and Teamwork are hard not to notice. Over the past year, the Transitions team has experienced several big changes, from restructuring the transition process to role changes and departures on the team. Even though Matt takes on a lot within Transitions, he always has time to help others. Always looking to find ways to better support our teammates in Salt Lake, in the field, and with our external partners. He delivers the highest levels of customer satisfaction. Matt brings a calming presence to our team while injecting humor and fun. We are fortunate that accounting was willing to share such a talented individual with us!”

Melany Williams – District Manager

“When I reflect on my journey as a District Manager and recall all the conversations I have had about the culture of Extra Space, a couple of people come to mind, but none more than Melany Williams. When Melany speaks, coaches, and directs, she always uses we. Melany has truly taught me that the way we do things is because of our culture. It’s always for the benefit of the customer and our team. She is a selfless leader and peer who puts others first. She shows that by always being there to listen and guide her teammates. She is patient, self-giving, helpful, and never makes you feel like you did something wrong. She is always saying, “anytime,” like, call me anytime, for example. And believe me, she means that! Melany has made me more self-aware and adaptable to team efforts within a district that can make success happen, and she reassures me that our knowledge bases will be the guiding light when she isn’t around. Thank you, Melany, for being such a selfless leader, mentor, and friend! I truly appreciate you and your guidance over this last year.”

Nick Jaggi – Corporate Learning Specialist

“Nick is one of the most talented, friendly, and hard-working members of the Extra Space team. He regularly makes every new hire’s first day a welcoming and comfortable experience. He could just do the regular orientation and send them on their way, but instead, he treats everyone’s first day as if it were his own first day. I’ve had many new hire lunches where our new team member mentions how helpful and kind Nick was. Nick helped the Accounting department indirectly navigate a significant software change this quarter. When I needed help with the software training kick-off meetings, he sent over a ton of material about change mindset. It included LinkedIn Learning videos, previously developed Learning and Development materials, and several professional development articles. It was way more than I expected. He also led the entire department and management team through the Clifton Strengths assessment. His subject-matter-expertise is impressive. But what I think sets him apart is his ability to tailor his delivery to any group he presents to. His warmth and relatability make his presentations incredibly effective. I know his help for Accounting was beyond his typical workload, and I’m certain he had to spend additional hours preparing for such a large-scale request. His impact from this experience will benefit our company for a long time. Nick’s contribution to our company is really special.”

Sergio Arredondo – Senior District Manager

“Sergio has demonstrated an extraordinary passion when it comes to our Teamwork value. This was recently made evident in his rapid response and amazing efforts to reach out and help our colleagues affected by hurricane Ian. He was one of the first to put boots on the ground and coordinate all needed staffing to give our partners on the west coast of Florida much-needed help and support.”
