Why do you choose to volunteer with Camp Nerden?

I volunteer for Camp Nerden because I want children and adults with intellectual disabilities to have the same opportunities as their peers. Everyone, regardless of ability, should have access to activities that foster growth and connection. It is important to me to advocate for this community by raising awareness about the camp and supporting its fundraising efforts.

What do your fundraising efforts look like?

I started fundraising for Camp Nerden in 2011 with a bike show to raise money for the camp. That initiative grew over the years, and I eventually partnered with the Meriden Motorcycle Club for a 24-hour motorcycle ride, which I now co-sponsor to benefit the camp. I handle outreach to local businesses and corporations, seeking donations of food, supplies, and money. I also promote the event through newspapers, social media, and radio. Recently, I launched a bottle and can fundraiser, and we’ve already held two successful events this year!

What is your favorite part about volunteering with Camp Nerden?

My favorite part is raising awareness and bringing the community together to support the camp’s mission. I believe that children and adults with special needs deserve the same opportunities and experiences as everyone else. Knowing that my efforts help not only raise funds but also shine a light on this incredible organization is deeply rewarding to me.
