Below is a statement communicated to Extra Space Storage employees to commemorate the one-year mark since the merger of Extra Space and Life Storage.

Can it be? Today marks one year since the Extra Space Storage family grew to include Life Storage! It was monumental not only for our company but also for the entire industry as the largest merger to date, and we were all a part of it!

In some ways, it seems like a lifetime ago that the merger was announced. In other ways, it seems like it was just yesterday that we were all working hand-in-hand to make it happen.

Most would agree that the merger stretched every department, team, and individual, but the fruits of our labors were beyond rewarding. It took months of coordination and training to ensure our teams, customers, and investors realized we were now one company!

Our visions and goals aligned in many ways, and now, one year out, our values of Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, Passion, and Innovation continue to serve as our guide. Our values gave us the grace and grit needed to tough it out each day and overcome the many obstacles and hurdles that we faced, enabling us, as a team, to overcome each and every one.

We are now stronger, more unified, and more focused than ever before, and we want to thank every single one of our team members, regardless of their role within the organization, for being a part of Extra Space Storage’s history. You made a difference on July 20, 2023, and you’ve continued to do so each day through this one-year milestone.
