The Extra Space Storage CEO Team of Excellence award is given out each year to recognize a group of exceptional professionals. Recipients are chosen by leaders from across the company for their outstanding accomplishments in the previous year and their dedication to company values.

This year, in addition to our annual announcement of all winners, we’re giving each one of these extraordinary individuals their time to shine. We asked each of them a few questions about their background and their thoughts on working at Extra Space Storage. Here’s a special look at three of our winners and what they had to say.

Monique Guisa ​​​​​​​– District Team Lead

Monique Guisa’s house is filled with five crazy kids who make life worth while. She loves listening to music with her children and taking them to concerts. Her favorite place to visit is Lake Arrowhead; she describes it as so serene, peaceful, and green.

What advice would you give someone just starting out at Extra Space Storage to help them succeed?

Take time to get to know your customers and your team members to make work a better place. Enjoy yourself.

What do you enjoy most about working at Extra Space Storage?

I enjoy the day-to-day interactions I have while training, coaching, mentoring, and just getting to know my peers.

Which Extra Space Storage value (Teamwork, Excellence, Integrity, Passion, Innovation) is important to you and why?

Teamwork. Teamwork means working together with your peers to make our work life more enjoyable and less stressful. Even though we don’t always work together at the same location each day, it doesn’t mean we can’t take care of one another. This is the one thing I admire the most about my district. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Setha Oum ​​​​​​​– Store Manager

Setha Oum was born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA, but his parents are from Cambodia. He has an addiction to buying sneakers and considers himself a “sneaker head.” He wakes up at 5:00 a.m. every day to journal and workout before going to work.

What advice would you give someone just starting out at Extra Space Storage to help them succeed?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

What do you enjoy most about working at Extra Space Storage?

All the people I work with!

Passion. Passion means waking up and loving what you do, every single day. It’s putting 100% into what you’re doing, making sure the facility is spotless, and taking care of customers.

Stefanie Thompson ​​​​​​​– District Team Lead

Stefanie Thompson has been in retail management for over 30 years. She enjoys cooking, watching and reading true crime, and studying fitness and foreign language. She’d like to become a certified health and life coach one day.

10 years.

What advice would you give someone just starting out at Extra Space Storage to help them succeed?

Come to work with a positive mindset each day and be patient with yourself when learning your new job. Ask for help when you need it, and build a support system to help navigate through the job. Finally, strive to be the best version of yourself each and every day.

What do you enjoy most about working at Extra Space Storage?

The many wonderful people I have met along my journey with the company. I also enjoy helping our company grow and building relationships within my community.

Passion. Passion means giving your all no matter what circumstances come your way. It’s spreading enthusiasm and loving what you do on good days and bad days.
