Each year, Extra Space Storage recognizes a group of exceptional team members with the CEO Team of Excellence award. These outstanding individuals are chosen by leaders from across the company based on their remarkable accomplishments in the previous year and their commitment to upholding company values.

In addition to our annual announcement of these deserving winners, we wanted to give each one their moment to shine. We asked each honoree to share fun facts about themselves and their experiences at Extra Space Storage. Below, we’ve highlighted four winners and what they had to say about their time at the company.

Chris Woodcook – District Team Lead

In his spare time, Chris finds joy in the pages of books or spending time in nature camping. Recently, he checked an item off his bucket list when he traveled with his family to Paris to make unforgettable memories in the City of Lights. Regarding his role at Extra Space, he says the team makes all the difference. He encourages new team members to embrace the company values and make the most of relationships with fellow teammates and customers.

On the Extra Space value of Teamwork, Chris shared: “Teamwork is what makes everything count. You can’t do it all on your own. Others’ success is the greatest reward for your hard work with the team.”

Cyndi Garman – District Team Lead

Cyndi is creative and enjoys spending time in nature. In her spare time, she immerses herself in crafts like scrapbooking and painting inspirational rocks—allowing her to express her creativity and share positive messages with others. Living in Washington, Cyndi looks forward to trips to Leavenworth, where she can feed and pet reindeer, and take horse-drawn buggy rides while taking in the breathtaking surroundings. Feeling valued by the company and her team is what Cyndi appreciates most about working at Extra Space.

On her job at Extra Space, Cyndi shared: “I have such passion for my job, whether talking to a customer, being the go-to person for other managers, helping another site, or helping a new hire succeed in their new role. I love what I do and the company I work for.”

Erin Schlund – District Manager

Erin loves traveling with her family. Together, they have explored 12 countries and created countless memories along the way. Their trip to South Africa is the most memorable place they’ve been. As a District Manager, Erin appreciates that no two days are the same. She encourages team members to prioritize relationships, embrace the company culture, and strive for excellence. Erin values Extra Space’s commitment to developing people and creating continuous opportunities to learn and grow.

On the Extra Space value of Teamwork, Erin shared: “Teamwork has been instrumental in my career. Through working together, we can challenge each other, support one another, and learn. Teamwork drives success.”

Jared Carter – District Team Lead

Jared enjoys creating and hosting game competitions for friends and family in his leisure time. He goes above and beyond, even constructing his own “Family Feud” set equipped with buzzers and custom questions. Not stopping there, Jared hosted a memorable 30-person trivia night and developed a series of social-distancing video challenges, bringing his friends and family together during the pandemic. He appreciates the opportunity to advance his skillset in various disciplines at work. He encourages new teammates to be prepared to problem-solve highly niche scenarios and utilize the lessons learned to conquer the next obstacle.

On the Extra Space value of Passion, Jared shared: “Passion allows you to open the playbook much wider. It allows you to believe in yourself and what you’re doing. When you have passion, obstacles become momentary speed bumps that you either traverse or go around. When you care about and take pride in what you do, everything else falls into place.”
