Extra Space Storage recently finished a large expansion project for a self storage facility at 8890 SW 72nd St in Miami, FL. The expansion plan included a ground-up build of a new structure, adding an impressive 503 units and 37,000 square feet of rentable space. The project was directed by Program Manager Scott Armstrong, Deal Captain Mackay Reid, and Design Lead Rob Burns.
Because of the addition of a multi-story structure to the existing property, it took time to get this project started and many years to complete. Getting city approvals in the early stages of development was a long process and caused delays early on. But the team was persistent and did an excellent job working through frustrations and issues with property neighbors.
The new building added additional drive-up storage units and a wide selection of indoor unit sizes and options—including a covered loading area and climate-controlled storage for those hot and humid Miami days. Previously the site primarily consisted of single-story drive-up units and didn’t take advantage of visibility from the nearby expressway. Now, passersby are sure to see the beautiful new building flanked with the Extra Space Storage logo.
Despite many early-on obstacles—including challenges and delays due to the pandemic—the project team successfully delivered an impressive new building that transforms the site and provides local Miami customers with more options for their storage needs.
Thank you to the project team, local leadership, and other Extra Space Storage teams for making the expansion of 8890 SW 72nd St in Miami a great success!
