We see what you’re doing and want to make it easier for you to make a difference and achieve your goals with the 2021 There’s Space for Everyone Scholarship. For this program, we will award a total of four $2,500 scholarships: Two (2) scholarships to any student attending an accredited college or university in the U.S., and two (2) scholarships to employees or immediate family members of Extra Space Storage.

Incoming and current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university during the fall 2021 semester are eligible to apply. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States and at least 16 years old.

HOW TO APPLY How to Apply Icon

To be considered for the 2021 There’s Space for Everyone Scholarship, you must complete the form below and provide a 500-word essay that answers the following question:

How will you utilize your education and experiences to make your community a more equal, inclusive place for everyone?

Submissions will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. MT on May 1, 2021 until 11:59 p.m., MT, on June 15, 2021.

Judging Criteria & Awarding of Scholarships

Essays will be judged on content, grammar, style, and originality, with each criterion having equal weight. Judges will look for clear, original, articulate writing that’s logically organized and well-supported.

A third-party agency as well as the Diversity & Inclusion Committee will judge and score each essay based on the judging criteria and award scholarships to the applicants who submitted the four top-scoring essays.

What is the 2021 There’s Space for Everyone Scholarship?

This scholarship is not a need- or achievement-based scholarship. It’s a scholarship program solely for college students who are passionate about making their communities more inclusive for all people.

When will you start accepting applications?

We will accept applications starting at 8:00 a.m. MT on May 1, 2021. The application period will end at 11:59 p.m. MT, on June 15, 2021. Recipients will be announced on or about July 15, 2021.

Does it cost money to apply?

No, applications are free.

Do you accept mail-in submissions?

No, you must submit your application through the form above during the submission period.

I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?

In order to be fair to all applicants, we do not accept applications submitted after the application deadline. Please be sure to start and submit your application early to avoid missing the June 15, 2021 deadline.

What can the scholarship be used for in my education program?

The funds from the 2021 There’s Space for Everyone Scholarship are to be used for qualified education expenses. This includes tuition, required fees, books, and course-specific supplies.

I graduate in December 2021. Can I still receive the scholarship?

Yes, any student who will be enrolled in an accredited college or university during the Fall 2021 semester is eligible to apply.

Can Extra Space Storage employees or family members apply?

Extra Space Storage employees and immediate family members (spouse and/or children) are encouraged to apply. Extra Space Storage is offering this scholarship opportunity in addition to the joint scholarship partnership with Western Governors University. You can learn more about that opportunity here.
