Women’s History Month: Day in the Life of Software Engineering Director Thanh Ha

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting the remarkable contributions of women at Extra Space Storage. Thanh Ha, Director of Software Engineering, is dedicated to her job as an engineer, personal growth, and community empowerment. She exemplifies the incredible impact women have in our organization.

Thanh begins her day with a 5:00 a.m. alarm to dedicate the first few hours to studying for her MBA. This commitment to lifelong learning and adaptability is a testament to her belief in continuous personal development beyond her professional responsibilities.

“Pursuing an MBA has not only expanded my leadership skills but also allowed me to collaborate with professionals from diverse industries,” Thanh shared. The experience of continuing my education has enriched my perspective and ability to adapt—a crucial trait in the fast-paced field of engineering.”

In her role at Extra Space, Thanh oversees key products and projects, including the enterprise platform and CRM application. Her days are typically filled with various meetings focused on product development, as well as dedicated time for supporting and mentoring direct reports. Thanh’s guiding philosophy is that critical systems should be more than just functional tools—they should act as catalysts that push the business forward. By prioritizing the advancement of these platforms and nurturing her team members to embrace a similar focus, they all collectively play a crucial role in company growth and operational efficiency.

Beyond her career and personal development, Thanh is passionate about supporting her community. She actively participates in networking events with organizations like the Women Tech Council and ShePlace. She also contributes to local initiatives, such as refugee female organizations, demonstrated by her involvement in the Women of World event.

“I am deeply committed to fostering the growth and advancement of women in the workplace, particularly in leadership roles,” Thanh continued. “My passion stems from a firm belief in the strength, diversity, and unique perspectives that female professionals contribute to any organization. By advocating for a more equitable professional environment, I aim to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to succeed and assume leadership positions.”

Thanh Ha’s story is a powerful reminder of the significant role women play in shaping our company and our world. Her dedication to her role, personal growth, and community support inspires us all to strive for excellence and make a positive impact in our respective fields.
