Extra Space Storage Adds Two New Division Vice Presidents to Its Leadership Team

With over 2,000 stores in 41 states and growing, it takes a group of excellent leaders at all levels to keep the day-to-day operation running smoothly. In 2021 alone, Extra Space Storage added 119 stores, across 22 states, to its portfolio. It’s the role of the Division Vice President (DVP) to support the success of our stores and our people in the field, and because of continued growth, we recently added two new DVPs to the ranks—Paty Portilla and Will Mann.

In February, Portilla and Mann visited the Store Support Center in Salt Lake City, UT, for two days of training and networking. The DVP role is multifaceted and requires a wide breadth of industry knowledge. As such, new DVPs at Extra Space Storage go through an intensive two-day inside-look at all areas of the business. From Revenue Management and Data Science to Acquisitions and Marketing, to Human Resources and Legal, every aspect of the business is covered.

“Paty and Will are extraordinary assets to our team and I couldn’t be more excited to see them take on their new roles. They’ve consistently demonstrated an ability to meet company metrics, adapt to industry changes, support their teams, and live the company values,” shared Matt Herrington, Executive Vice President and COO.

Portilla joined Extra Space Storage in 2015, and prior to her promotion to Divisional Vice President, Paty made a tremendous impact in the Southern California market as a Senior District Manager. She was also an inaugural leader of the Diversity and Inclusion Education Committee and has educated, mentored, and developed existing and future company leaders through that assignment.

When Mann joined the company as a District Manager in Austin, TX, in early 2020, it was his first role in the self storage industry. But his previous experience as a Regional Director and Vice President overseeing multiple health club locations prepared him to take on another position leading people and managing performance across multiple Extra Space Storage locations. Fun fact—before joining us in our love for green, Mann was loyal to red. The Red Sox, that is, where he played baseball in their minor league system after college.

“Our leaders and employees in the field are the best of the best. Through their hard work, we saw tremendous growth in 2021; I can’t thank them enough,” said Herrington. “We need their help more than ever to continue that success in 2022. I’m confident that Paty, Will, and all our team members in the field are up to the challenge.”
