Extra Space Storage recently hosted its 2019 Partner Conference in early June. Each year, the event brings together the Extra Space Storage team and third-party self storage owners who manage their properties through the company’s ManagementPlus program for two days of relationship building.
The theme of this year’s conference, which was hosted in Miami, was “Built to Last” to signify the commitment Extra Space Storage has to its third-party partners. As the self storage industry’s largest third-party management company, Extra Space Storage helps manage over 500 third-party properties in addition to more than 1,000 owned or joint-venture properties. The third-party management and joint venture partners are an important part of the growth pipeline for the organization.
CEO Joe Margolis and COO Samrat Sondhi, along with other members of the company’s executive team and leaders from various departments—such as Accounting and Finance, Investor Relations, IT, Legal, Marketing and Revenue Management, Operations, Product Development, Real Estate, and Third-Party Management—attended the event to present on recent successes regarding shareholder value, growth projections, acquisitions, expansions, development trends, internal efforts, and more.
The team also shared current initiatives, discussing how self storage is changing with younger generations, how the rapid advancement of technology requires a greater focus on privacy and security, and how there’s now increased online competition for the best consumer experience.
“We have a very bright future at Extra Space Storage,” says Margolis. “The industry has a lot of runway, and we are positioned well for continued growth. We have a great team, a great platform, and a great strategy to deliver results to our shareholders. And we will continue to do so while living our values every day.”
The 2019 Partner Conference wasn’t all business, though. The event included live entertainment, as well as a photo booth with props. Attendees also enjoyed a Best Costume Contest during the Welcome Dinner, in which participants showcased their best ’80s attire inspired by Miami Vice. Five finalists were selected during the dinner with attendees voting on the best costumes. The winners of the contest were Jason and Anne Canin, who were asked to name a charitable organization of their choice to receive a $5,000 donation on behalf of Extra Space Storage. They chose Wounded Warrior Outdoors.
From everyone at Extra Space Storage, we’d like to thank those who participated in this year’s Partner Conference, and we look forward to seeing you again for our next conference.
