Each quarter, we announce the EXTRAordinary Employees of the Quarter award. These aren’t given to people who just do their jobs. They’re awarded to those who go above and beyond in demonstrating our core values, and the nominations are submitted anonymously by other employees, team leaders, or entire departments.
Below are the EXTRAordinary winners from Q1 2023, featuring the nominations from their peers!
Kyle Gilpin – District Manger, Remote Operations
“I was fortunate to work with Kyle Gilpin during the Storage Express integration. He is such a positive influence on his team, everyone at Storage Express, and Extra Space with the many changes he has implemented. His leadership of his team and peers is one of the reasons this was such a successful integration. I have seen Kyle juggle numerous priorities from multiple departments with a can-do attitude that is infectious. Regardless of short deadlines or degree of difficulty to implement, he does it all with a calm and patient manner and gets buy-in from all involved. Thanks, Kyle, for your support and the amazing effort to make the Storage Express integration a fun (if crazy) experience!”
Michelle Ellis-Acosta – District Manager
“Michelle has so many ‘EXTRA’ qualities that she shows daily. Our district has had so much growth because of her drive and encouragement to show all of us that we can do it. She has worked with us as a whole and individually to help us see our true potential from a different perspective that we may not always see ourselves. She makes us aware of what we need to work on and gives us ideas on the approach to make it happen. She has impacted me in so many ways and I will forever be grateful that she has come to our Extra Space family. Michelle helps us reach our goals with her loyalty, dedication, drive, encouragement, and willingness to visit any site when needed. Sinel Eloi – District Manager
“When Sinel became our District Manager, there was an immediate sense of enthusiasm. He had a clear vision for where he wanted to take the district, and he wasted no time getting started. He is a natural leader and inspires his team to do their best work. He sets high expectations for himself and for his colleagues, but he also provides the support and guidance necessary to help everyone meet those expectations. He is always available to answer questions, provide feedback, or just lend a listening ear. He has created an environment where everyone feels valued and supported—that has had a significant impact on our success. His passion for the work we do at Extra Space Storage is evident in everything he does, and that has motivated and inspired us all.”
Julie Baukus – Director of Operations Support
“Julie has the hardest job at Extra Space! She is the go-to person for anything and everything the field and the Salt Lake Support Center need. She has to problem solve, prioritize, manage, build relationships, and be the face of Operations. I have worked with several people who have held her position in the past, but no one has come close to what she has done in the short time she’s been in the role.”
Adam Day – Multimedia Design Developer
“This last year Adam has consistently gone above and beyond by maintaining and keeping to Extra Space’s values. He radiates a craftsmanship-level quality in every facet of every design he touches and oversees, holding near and dear the company’s brand standards, whether through the Marketing team or with outside resources. His dedication and determination to support every member of the team while taking on multiple projects at once is only further proof that he is a vital member to the organization.”
Lia Taylor – Sr. Accountant
“Lia is a fantastic member of our team. During the bank failures in March, she was one of the first to know about it and to inform our team. We were able to contact third-party owners to confirm how they wanted to handle the situation for upcoming cash distributions. The owners were thrilled we were on top of the situation. She’s also been leading our team in improving the Jira ticket process. This has helped provide more accurate data on the types of tickets our teams receive, and it contributes to better training practices and information provided to other groups.”
Sean Ferris – Desktop Support Engineer
“Sean has worked on the Storage Express helpdesk for several years. He’s got a great attitude, and his work is top notch. He works hard to make sure our equipment is functioning as intended, and he takes responsibility when something isn’t right. Sean has spent the last two months working with the team to deploy new tech stacks at over 100 Storage Express locations. This was a huge undertaking! It required deploying some additional equipment at each location to ensure over 2,000 cameras continued to work properly. It’s likely that Sean has touched every camera at least once over the last two months. I think this qualifies as EXTRAordinary!”
Reagan Garwood – Sr. Customer Service Agent
“Reagan has stepped up multiple times during the last quarter. She’s been willing to change her schedule to make sure the National Solutions Center Bloomington office had phone coverage for our customers. Her flexibility ensured customer needs were handled quickly and with a one-touch resolution. Our leadership went to Utah in January and Reagan handled all escalations and other challenges that are typically handled by leaders. She asked questions, remained professional, and most of all she stepped up!”
