Each quarter, we give out the EXTRAordinary Employee of the Quarter award. These aren’t given to people who just do their jobs. They’re awarded to those who go above and beyond in demonstrating our core values, and the nominations are submitted anonymously by other employees, team leaders, or entire departments.
Below are the EXTRAordinary winners from Q3 2019 featuring the nomination statements from their peers!
Becky English – Senior Transitions Manager, Store Support Center
“Becky and her team have managed to process to onboard 169 stores by the end of Q3, which represents a 20% increase compared with last year. In addition, her team has managed 24 dispositions and 22 ownership changes so far this year. Our store onboarding process requires a coordinated effort from several teams at the SSC, those in the field, and store owners for managed stores. Becky’s team functions as a single point of contact for all issues and coordinating resolutions. Becky is committed to making continuous improvements to our transitions process. Becky is passionate about store performance and making sure stores are functional on the day of transition. She has a lot of customers in various roles who depend on her team to be reliable and available. Thank you, Becky, for your commitment to excellence and passion for improvement.”
Jason Summers – Tax Accountant, Store Support Center
“Jason is a highly valued member of the Tax team. He is a very dedicated employee with a positive attitude and embodies the values that makes Extra Space Storage a great place to work. While reviewing fixed assets this summer, he identified a major issue and potential control deficiency affecting over 17,000 tax assets. Over the course of the last few months, he has devoted many extra hours to correct elements of the problem by diving deep into the details and collaborating with members of both the tax and accounting fixed asset teams. Jason always delivers a high-quality product and is a pleasure to work with.”
Mark Jensen – Digital Marketing Senior Manager, Store Support Center
“Mark Jensen is a great member of the CA team, especially with his excellent technical ability and paid search experience. From early this year, his responsibilities have expanded to include email and other paid media channels. With some changes in the CA team in Q3, day-to-day paid search responsibilities also fell squarely on his shoulders as well. He took the challenge with his characteristic attention-to-detail nature. He has been successful in managing our paid search budget to the dollar in the last quarter, and he has successfully modified our paid search campaigns to capitalize on Google’s new automated ad serving features. At the same time, he has been a great team player, working with several members across the organization in developing and implementing two significant tests in the email and paid media channels. With email, he and his team resolved many technical hurdles in producing a win for the channel in Q3 as well. With his positive attitude and a funny demeanor, Mark represents the best of working at Extra Space.”

She has not only gone above and beyond to answer my questions, but she has also taken time to show me how to find the information on my own. Melany Williams – District Manager, Peoples Division
“Melany has been an integral part in the growth and development of not just myself, but also our team. She is known for her endless positive attitude and outlook on life! She pushes our team to achieve greatness every day and always makes sure she is available to help whenever needed. Ramona Bench – Inside Sales Represenative, National Sales Center
“I would like to nominate Ramona Bench as an EXTRAordinary Award winner as she truly has stepped up and been a role model for our team, as our current team lead has been out on maternity leave. Mona has stepped up and taken on Oaklee’s duties like a champ. She has kept up on one-on-ones and is always making sure we are in the loop on corporate policies and making sure we know our numbers and that we are all hitting our goals. She shows us all genuine interest and is always motivating us to better ourselves. We are beyond lucky to have her. As a team, I know we couldn’t have done it without her! Thank you, Ramona!”
Robert Raymond – District Manager, Black Division
“Rob is well deserving of this nomination, because of what I’ve learned from him. Lesson #1 (of many to come): Never let them see you sweat. He helped our district every step of every change, whether he implemented that change or corporate did. He demonstrated the right path to follow in our corporate environment as it pertained to integrity and living the Extra Space values. He exemplifies the Extra Space compass and all it guides us through for Customer Experience, Employee Experience, and Image. He is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground District Manager who is always available to answer questions, role play, coach, talk you down from a bad experience, shout your successes, and help you build from your opportunities. He excels in making team players feel like part of the team and not benchwarmers. He NEVER leaves a meeting, store visit, or conversation without asking ‘What can I do for YOU?’ That makes you feel like somebody every time. Rob Raymond is a mentor and leader who Extra Space should be proud to call one of their own.”
