Extra Space Storage Receives 2021 SAMY Award for Best Social Media Campaign

Extra Space Storage has once again been recognized by Utah Business during the magazine’s annual SAMY Awards in January. The SAMYs, short for “Sales and Marketers of the Year,” acknowledge accomplishments by Utah businesses in the areas of marketing, digital campaigns, social media, video, and more.

For a third consecutive year, the self storage organization was awarded Best Social Media Campaign. Social Media Manager Andrew Todd represented the Extra Space Storage Marketing department when receiving the award, citing the department’s teamwork as one of the most fulfilling parts of his job, as well as a driving factor in the company’s extraordinary achievements in social media marketing.

“That feeling when you work as a team to come up with an innovative solution to a company problem is the most rewarding of any other feeling,” Todd said.

Todd has worked with Extra Space Storage since January 2017, where he and other members of the Marketing team run six social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest. The team oversees organic content, influencer campaigns, employee advocacy, and paid advertising. Their efforts have led to a 64% increase in social media-attributed conversions while also decreasing cost per acquisition by 28%.

In addition to his position at Extra Space Storage, Todd also serves as a Board Member at SocialMedia.org, a community of social media leaders among the world’s top brands.

Todd says he was drawn to marketing because each day is different, especially in the constantly changing landscape of social media. He studied marketing and multimedia design at Utah State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. It was in his Fundamentals of Marketing class that he knew marketing was the path he wanted to pursue.

“I discovered marketing was a natural fit for me and would help feed my fascination as someone who loves to continually learn and develop,” Todd said. “You are never doing the same tasks or working on the same projects. It requires you to be agile, creative, and innovative in your approach. That’s why I have and will remain in marketing.”
