Extra Space Storage recently completed an expansion project for a self storage property in Oxnard, CA at 2585 W 5th St. This expansion added four single-story buildings to the Extra Space Storage facility, including drive-up storage unit and indoor storage units. The four buildings have added approximately 131 units, or 15,000 square feet of additional rentable space, to the existing 116,000-square-foot storage facility. Leading the project were Program Manager John Bennet, Deal Captain Mackay Reid, and Design Lead Julio Amarillo.
Despite the added challenge of working on a construction project during the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant greater potential for delays, the Extra Space Storage team was able to complete the expansion project on time. Nevertheless, the project was not without its difficulties.
Expanding this particular self storage facility required building on existing RV storage spaces. This meant the facility had to find workarounds to accommodate current customers throughout the construction process, which required extensive coordination. Fortunately, through the tremendous partnership between the project team, general contractor, and Store Manager John Muldoon, Extra Space Storage customers were accommodated without much trouble, and the team was able to adhere to their tight construction schedule.
The team also faced many obstacles required by the City of Oxnard Planning Department. One requirement was that they had to install a robust landscape package throughout the existing storage site that could be maintained during drought conditions. The facility now features modern drought-tolerant landscaping to complement the new and existing self storage buildings on this property.
Thanks to the project team, local leadership, and the Extra Space Storage Operations team, the expansion of the 2585 W 5th St storage facility in Oxnard was a success!
