Extra Space Storage recently completed an extensive expansion project for a self storage property at 1705 S State College Blvd in Anaheim, CA. The project involved tearing down existing buildings to create space for new structures, resulting in an impressive addition of 62,000 square feet of rentable space and 761 new units.
Two existing buildings were demolished to accommodate the expansion, making way for the construction of five new buildings. Four buildings were single-story additions, while the fifth was a three-story climate-controlled build. Previously, the facility did not offer this feature, but now nearly half the site is equipped with climate control. These developments transformed the facility, increasing the number of units from 503 to 1,264, and expanded the rentable space to an impressive 115,720 square feet.
“The expansion of this property was extensive and consisted of adding four single-story buildings and one three-story climate-controlled building,” shared Joe Jordan, Construction Property Redevelopment Manager at Extra Space. “It was a genuine team effort of local leaders, facility leaders, and many others throughout the organization to get this gem in a position to maximize the property size and revenue.”
The property is located in a district of Anaheim called the Platinum Triangle. It’s an area that generally surrounds and includes Angel Stadium, Honda Center, and The Grove of Anaheim. City leaders have been positioning the area as a new downtown of Orange County—promoting an urban design framework that supports mixed use development—balancing new office, residential, and sports or entertainment venues with walkable streets and open space. With our newly redeveloped store, we are now strongly positioned to support the growing and dynamic residential and commercial development in this market.
The successful expansion of 1705 S State College Blvd would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the project team and local leadership.
