Extra Space Storage Remodels Chicago Self Storage Facility

Extra Space Storage recently finished a remodel for a self storage property in Chicago, IL at 707 W Harrison St.

This Chicago facility is unique because it sits across the street from another Extra Space Storage property at 601 W Harrison St. Both properties have been upgraded with complementary fresh designs that make a statement in the neighborhood. Both Peter McDaniel and Mark Glasmire spent time as Program Managers—as this project took several years to complete—and Derek Sneddon supported as Design Lead.

The project was started several years ago but stopped due to the nearby construction of a highway interchange. The road construction impacted the foundation of the building, so the team waited until it was complete, repaired the foundation damage, and continued with the redevelopment.

In addition to delays and damage brought on by the highway construction, unforeseen drain line issues were discovered during the course of the foundation repair forcing the team to reroute building drainage.

Because of the extended project timeline, the team faced logistical challenges with leadership reassignments due to resources, workloads, and promotions. Continued communication between the Construction and Property Development, Facilities, Operations, and Asset Management teams was required to ensure that things moved forward successfully.

After several years of work, the final result was worth the wait! The two adjacent facilities bring new life to the neighborhood and serve as a stunning Extra Space Storage landmark. Thanks to each of the teams at Extra Space Storage who participated in making the redevelopment of 707 W Harrison St in Chicago a success!
