Each quarter, we give out the EXTRAordinary Employee of the Quarter award. These aren’t given to people who just do their jobs. They’re awarded to those who go above and beyond in demonstrating our core values, and the nominations are submitted anonymously by other employees, team leaders, or entire departments.
Below are the EXTRAordinary winners from Q3 2021, featuring the nomination statements from their peers!
Allie Leininger – Senior Paid Acquisition Manager, Store Support Center
“Allie has been with the company for over two years now. In this time, she has successfully transitioned to leading and taking ownership of the Paid Search and Paid Media groups within the Marketing team. As with other aspects of our business, COVID-19 produced a new set of challenges for operating our paid search campaigns. Allie took these challenges head-on and collaborated well with other teams in getting our paid search spend to reflect the changing marketing environment. Allie and her team found efficient ways to reorganize the paid search campaigns using Google’s newer strategies, leading to a better paid search management program. In the past quarter, she took learnings from the previous tests and helped develop a paid media strategy for the company, building a robust roadmap for this often overlooked marketing channel. Allie brings a positive, can-do attitude to work. With her problem-solving and project management skills, she has been a great partner to work with and an important contributor to the success of our marketing programs.”
Glenn Sherman – District Manager, Machenheimer Division
“Glenn has been a role model for me as a new District Manager. He has built a cohesive and supportive district and is willing to share how he has been successful. He is always available to answer questions or just to talk through any issues or thoughts. He participates in all team calls and chats and is always ready with a funny meme no matter the topic of discussion; he always makes me smile. Glenn also can be counted on as a partner to all his peers. He recently helped a fellow District Manager when he had unexpected turnover in a remote market. The District Manager could not get to the store to ensure the office was secured and change the locks. But Glenn was in a position to get there, verify everything was good, and have the locks changed, no questions asked. He is always willing to help out whenever and wherever he can. We are lucky to have him on our division team. Thanks for all you do, Glenn!”
Allen Meyer – Senior Property Accountant, Store Support Center
“Allen oversees one of the most challenging assignments in the accounting department—property taxes. He takes complete ownership of this assignment and provides excellent customer service to internal customers, as well as third-party owners. This is a heavily scrutinized expense item with many complications arising from jurisdictions, managing communications, and COVID-19. Because of his dedication to achieving excellence, he has become an expert in this arena and can handle any curveball thrown his way. Along with continuing the normal monthly and quarterly property taxes, he shares his knowledge with the property tax team and helps individuals improve. This assignment experienced a manager change in 2021, and Allen has been a solid foundation for the new manager. Allen was also an integral part of the groups that recorded the company’s numerous acquisitions and third-party dispositions in Q3. He keeps a positive and approachable attitude during all his assignments, which makes him a real team player.”
Amanda McAlister – Inbound Sales Representative, National Solutions Center
“It is my great pleasure to recommend Amanda McAlister for this EXTRAordinary award. Along with her enthusiasm, positive energy, and attentiveness to her customers’ needs, she still takes the time to answer all the off-the-wall questions I may have. She has proven herself to be hard-working, motivated, ambitious, charismatic, and reliable. Her honesty, dependability, confidence, and excellent communication skills have proven to help out her teammates continuously. Not only is Amanda a great person, but she also has a tremendous impact on her coworkers. Along with providing superior support to our customers, she is also building long-term relationships with our client base. Amanda stands out for her kindness and commitment. Without a doubt, Amanda will surpass all expectations on the sales floor.”
Cassandra Dsouza – Product Success Manager, Store Support Center
“Cassie has been with Extra Space Storage for over 12 years. She joined us at the Store Support Center on the Customer Experience team and has only been in her role for about seven months. In that time, she’s made a considerable impact. She excels in building relationships and ensuring that all voices are heard, and the groups work together seamlessly. Cassie’s most significant impact has been on improving the digital access rollout. She inherited a bit of a mess. In conjunction with Product and Facilities team members, she led the charge on ensuring the rollout was smooth and the technology adapted to the needs of our managers and customers. The rollout of digital access gates is much better today, and a large portion of that is due to the passion and care Cassie has for our employees and customers.”
Joshua Silva – District Manager, Verboncoeur Division
“Josh has been a great asset in our district, especially in Q3. Josh was tasked with taking on more stores due to a temporary realignment, opening a new store, and staffing these new stores. Josh was able to take an understaffed remote market and make it adequately staffed for coverage by making interviewing a top priority. Josh has coached and developed our team into hitting the goals consistently each month and continues to be a top performing district in our division. Thanks for all you do for us, Josh!”
Matt Luba – District Manager, James Division
“When Matt Luba joined Extra Space Storage six years ago, he brought an extensive career of retail leadership with him. Over that time, he has proven to be a solid District Manager and a great example of our values, which he demonstrates daily. Matt thinks and acts like a professional owner with high standards looking for win-win outcomes in every situation involving employees, customers, and owners. One of Matt’s biggest strengths is his passion for being an efficient, flexible, and great all-around teammate. As our division has grown, Matt’s district has realigned several times over the years. He does a great job making the transition as easy as possible for the store team and the other District Managers involved by closing out open items and communicating the pertinent details. Matt is also one of the most organized in managing his district by using his computer skills to keep details in order. Matt creates valuable spreadsheets to track projects, vendor bids, evaluate season service bids, etc., which he is quick to share with his peers to help them in similar projects. When it comes to teamwork, Matt ranks among the best. Although his calendar is always full, he is ready to pivot when he can help out. There were a few examples of this in Q3 that are worth mentioning. First, when the remnants of Hurricane Ida passed through eastern Pennsylvania, causing local flooding, Matt was onsite quickly for his teams. He also assisted with staffing coverage in a sister district dealing with storm damage. Secondly, Matt jumped in to help open a new store in another district when the opening date moved. These are just some examples of what makes Matt an exceptional leader, peer, and, more importantly, person. Thank you for everything you do, Matt!”
