Each quarter, we give out the EXTRAordinary Employee of the Quarter award. These aren’t given to people who just do their jobs. They’re awarded to those who go above and beyond in demonstrating our core values, and the nominations are submitted anonymously by other employees, team leaders, or entire departments.
Below are the EXTRAordinary winners from Q4 2020, featuring the nomination statements from their peers!
Andrew Reich – Senior Customer Service Agent
“Andrew helped train our service agents on the best verbiage for handling complex calls to the National Sale Center (NSC). He also helped train service agents on Bluetooth digital lock support for customers. We brought on ten remote service agents in December in four different states; Andrew was part of these new-to-NSC agents’ daily training and has followed up with them since their onboarding to ensure success in their new roles. Andrew has been in-office through the entire pandemic, assisting wherever needed in multiple projects, opening procedures, filling in for supervisor coverage, and tackling technical issues for both at-home and in-office agents. Andrew is a valuable asset to the NSC for both the at-home and in-office teams. Andrew comes to work every day seeking out ways to help our team, our customers, and he does all this with a positive attitude.”
Eddie Albino – District Manager
“Throughout the year, Eddie’s positive attitude, ideas, and solutions during tough times helped elevate our team’s spirit and inspired the leadership team to make a more effective impact. He is passionate about finding ways to continue to improve processes to achieve top-notch results. Eddie lives by our culture and values, and he always shows a great sense of passion in his interactions and visits, ensuring that his team members learn and grow. Eddie, I appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge and expertise with all of us!”
Gray Marchese – Marketing Data Scientist
“Gray has been with us for a little over three years now. During this time, he has been a top performer, always delivering his projects on time. One of the data science team’s critical functions is designing and measuring the various tests we support in the Revenue Management and the Marketing departments. Gray has taken complete ownership of this process and has developed a sophisticated system that reports on the key metrics with the click of a button. In the past quarter, he has implemented an advanced measurement model to improve the accuracy of estimating statistical significance of our test measurements. This will help the organization in making decisions on our tests with much more confidence. In addition to this, he also enthusiastically helped validate and measure the impact of product efforts in the last quarter. It has been nice to see Gray grow from an intern position to a data scientist by consistently delivering value to the data science team and the organization as a whole.”
Jay Johnson – District Manager
“If anyone, Jay deserves this award. He takes the time to do what is best for the company while still thinking about his staff. He goes above and beyond to be professional and caring at the same time. I want to do my part to make sure he is successful as our District Manager. Jay has taken his knowledge and leadership skills from his previous career and made a difference here. He has learned so much about our industry and seems to continue to help our district grow. With the many changes and challenges in the past 12 months, it has been nice to see it all from his perspective. He has made sure we understand the new way of doing storage and how to achieve a great customer experience at the same time.”
Robert Isla – District Manager
“Robert is an incredible team member. He is always going above and beyond for our division. He has been instrumental in helping onboard new District Managers and is a great resource of guidance and support for them. I know our more seasoned leaders will also come to him to bounce different ideas off of. He is someone that I have leaned on quite a bit in my few years with the company too. He also does little things like any time we have a division meeting, he is always helping with notes to share with the team. He will send us all motivational emails to help get the week kicked off on a positive vibe. Robert is an incredible team member who lives our values daily, and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work alongside him.”
Tammara Fox – Paralegal Manager
“In addition to Tammara’s traditional legal responsibilities, in 2019, she accepted the assignment to assist with the growing Bridge Loan program. She has always done a great job with this assignment and has been instrumental in creating new program procedures. She especially went above and beyond in the fourth quarter. Tammara was involved with closing 21 loans and multiple loan sale and disposition transactions, almost all of which closed in the last 15 days of the year. This resulted in incredibly long hours and rearranged holiday plans, including being in the office on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve trying to get the last few deals across the finish line. Tammara is a great example of our company value of Teamwork!”
Todd Tanner – Facility Service Manager
“Todd is amazing to work with, and I am very grateful to know that he is on our team. There is no task that is too complicated or difficult that Todd will not offer to spearhead and devote his time and attention. In recent months, the facility department has gone through several policy changes and enhancements to bring more value to our department and people. On many of these recent changes, Todd has offered to jump in and get dirty with designing spreadsheets and other helpful training tools to help Facility Service Managers across the country be more successful. Whenever I reach out to Todd for cross-functional support or advice, I feel that he cares and wants to help in every way he can. As a peer to Todd, I can honestly say that the culture and ethics that Todd lives day in and day out are a representation of why Extra Space Storage is such a great place to work. I can only hope that working with Todd in the coming months and years will allow some of this culture, ethics, and standards to rub off on me to grow further in my career with Extra Space Storage.”

“Tyler exemplifies our core values with every interaction he has, especially Excellence and Teamwork. Tyler is our go-to person with issues and concerns because of his promptness and diligence in finding a resolution! He exceeds our expectations every single time and does it with a smile on his face. He is passionate about his job and our company, and it shows in every action he takes. He always has a can-do attitude as he works quietly behind the scenes to ensure our equipment and tools are functioning properly, allowing us to do our jobs effectively and efficiently. Tyler deserves recognition for everything he does and all he exemplifies as an Extra Space Storage employee.
