Karen Pierce, Division Vice President
We are thrilled to celebrate Karen Pierce’s 25th anniversary with Extra Space Storage!
“Over the years, Karen has been an instrumental and invaluable leader for Extra Space,” said Matt Herrington, Executive Vice President and COO. “We are beyond fortunate to have such commitment, leadership, creativity, and drive in such an important role in our organization.”
Pierce started her self storage journey as the Director of Training for Storage USA in 1997. She came to Extra Space Storage as the Vice President of Learning and Development with the acquisition of Storage USA in 2005. “Having spent over 17 years as the leader of the Learning and Development Department, Karen implemented and taught many of the programs and initiatives that are prevalent throughout our organization today,” Herrington shared.
Pierce stayed in this role until mid-2015, when she transferred to the field as Division Vice President for the Atlanta division. She was there for a year and then moved to Chicago to assume the same role for the Chicago division. She’s been in this role ever since and hopes to retire from Extra Space Storage in her current position.
Pierce has undoubtedly seen a lot of growth and change over the years but what keeps her coming to work every day is the people. “Over the last 25 years, we’ve still managed to maintain a wonderful culture that we all feel,” said Pierce. “We are so lucky to work for a company that values its employees above all else.” Her fondest memories include the fun and crazy times she’s had with her teammates, including the charity events she’s done with the leadership team and stores, the costume party event from a few years ago, and other funny inside jokes among the team to keep the job light-hearted. “These are memories that bind us!”
As many who have worked with Pierce know, she loves to make a difference. Her passion has always been for people’s development. She is particularly proud of all the people she’s worked with and helped develop who are now excelling in their careers.
“She is a gifted mentor and communicator and has contributed to the career progression of an innumerable list of leaders in our organization,” Herrington concluded. “Simply put, Karen’s fingerprints are all over the success story that is Extra Space Storage.”
