We’re taking a look back at some Extra Space Storage properties that received upgrades in recent years. From paint upgrades to modern new-builds, these before-and-after photos have a little something for everyone. Here are more of our favorite transformations from the past few years.
6780 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, FL
When tackling major construction projects, it’s not uncommon to compromise or meet resistance with local municipalities, but that wasn’t the case with the project at 6780 Seminole Blvd. The city of Seminole was supportive of our plans to modernize and expand the property by adding 419 units. Since this renovation was at the property entrance, maintaining safe customer access during construction was a priority. Even though budget and schedule were impacted due to circumstances out of our control, the project was successfully completed thanks to the support of Extra Space Storage leaders, the operations team, and the City of Seminole.
36 Popes Ln, Danvers, MA
The property at 36 Popes Ln in Danvers, MA, was sitting on several acres of undeveloped land, and while the existing facility was serving the community well, it wasn’t fully maximizing its potential. A significant hurdle with expanding that the project team was aware of was the poor quality of the soil. But the extent of the problem was unknown until excavation started, causing delays that pushed the project into the winter months. Once complete, the project added 77 drive-up self storage units to complement the exiting indoor units.
4701 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA
Similar to a neighboring Fredericksburg property, the facility at 4701 Jefferson Davis Hwy was due for a new modern look and expanded storage options. The changes didn’t come easy, though. The project plan included a complete demolition and rebuild of the existing office building. The local jurisdiction was not keen on the new roof design, so the team had to undergo several redesigns before receiving final approval. Additional approvals were also required from the regional watershed department to protect the stream that runs along the property line. Despite some unique obstacles, the new office design and 175 additional storage units look great!
1430 N 130th St, Seattle, WA
We’re still swooning over this project at 1430 N 130th St in Seattle, WA, that we featured a few months ago. The beautiful new office space and three-story addition make this a picture-perfect site in the Seattle area. We’re proud of the excellent teamwork and communication required to make this project a reality in a market where square footage is hard to come by. The team worked through multiple project shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic and solved complex design challenges. The impressive new building added 360 new units to the existing site and architectural elements that make the Extra Space Storage brand shine.
