Extra Space Storage recently completed a ground-up build for a self storage property in Westminster, CO. This new facility, located at 5602 W 120th Ave, offers 659 units—including climate-controlled storage units and drive-up access units—just off of the highly-visible W 120th Ave and Sheridan Blvd intersection.
Because of its visibility, constructing the multi-level building required careful planning. But developing this piece of land into a commercial self storage property wasn’t an easy task. Program Manager Scott Armstrong says the construction took almost five years to complete, as the Extra Space Storage team had to go through lengthy design, entitlement, and legal processes.
One issue in particular that the team ran into was that this parcel of land had to be subdivided to accommodate an existing house in the area. “We were responsible for providing all new utilities for the existing house,” Armstrong said.
Though the Extra Space Storage team encountered several obstacles throughout this self storage construction project that slowed the initial timeline, they came out on the other side with a state-of-the-art self storage facility in a competitive Colorado market.
“We are most proud of both the result and that we all had the commitment, stamina, and patience to work through this unusually lengthy process,” added Armstrong. “The finished building looks amazing, and the Operations team is renting out units quickly.”
Thanks to the efforts of District Vice President Thomas Verbonoceur, District Manager Nick Lauritzen, the local managers, and the Operations team during the construction, this new Westminster storage facility is up and running and already seeing rental success.
