Recently, Extra Space Storage completed a self storage expansion project in Fredericksburg, VA. The facility, located at 2403 Plank Rd, was an existing property in need of an updated exterior and office building that would catch the eyes of Fredericksburg residents driving along the busy, multi-lane Plank Rd.
“Working with local jurisdiction to get authorization to make changes on the building was challenging at times, but with a lot of follow-up and productive discussions, we were able to receive approval,” said Program Manager Scott Armstrong.
The team working on the expansion—led by Armstrong and Design Lead Rob Burns—helped update the self storage facility’s storage unit doors, removing the company’s former dark green brand color with the current light green color. But that wasn’t all the team tackled with this storage property.
One unique aspect of the project was that the team needed to completely demolish the existing office and apartment, both of which were located above storage units in the building. This meant the team needed to work around the storage units, keeping them secure and protected from the elements while the improved office space was being constructed. In addition, the project required a temporary trailer to house the facility management team and ensure facility operations continued to run smoothly.
Upon completion, the upgraded office space and facility exterior provided the Plank Rd self storage location with a more modern and attention-grabbing look that improved the facility’s visibility from the road. “The office looks exceptional and now provides a good place to transact business,” added Armstrong.
With the help of the Extra Space Storage Operations team, District Vice President Brian Whitham, District Manager Alicia Hehn, and the local managers, this facility expansion was a success!
