Extra Space Storage is excited to announce the launch of Rapid Rental. This latest innovation allows Extra Space Storage customers to complete the entire self storage rental process online wherever they are without having to interface with the company’s computers, wait in line, or fill out paperwork in person.
One of the many benefits of Rapid Rental’s simple, straightforward process is its convenience. Customers can reserve self storage in just a few minutes online without having to visit an Extra Space Storage facility first, meaning they can get moved into their storage units quicker. Rapid Rental also functions as an extension of our COVID-19 efforts to provide contactless rentals and safe interactions between customers and employees.
“Online renting is just another way we will bring new rentals to our stores,” said Joe Margolis, CEO of Extra Space Storage. “Building relationships, supporting, and serving customers will still be a crucial role for our exceptional store managers.”
How does Extra Space Storage’s Rapid Rental process work?
First, customers are asked for their personal information, such as first and last name, primary phone number, email address, and home address.
Next, customers are asked for storage details, including identity verification, text communication preference, and alternate contact information. In addition, customers are asked to describe the items they intend to store in their unit (with an estimated value), pick a personal gate code, determine their length of stay, and provide a birth date.
Following storage details, customers are asked for account details, including whether they have lien holdings, intend to store a vehicle, are a member of the U.S. military, or plan to use self storage for business purposes.
Next, customers are asked to select their storage insurance coverage. Extra Space Storage partners with Beecher Carlson to offer several levels of coverage at a range of affordable monthly premiums. The option to use an existing insurance provider (with certificate of proof) is available as well.
Then, customers are asked to set up payment with credit card information. The payment includes the monthly unit rental, a one-time facility admin fee, taxes, and insurance coverage (if using insurance through Extra Space Storage).
Lastly, customers are asked to review and sign their self storage agreement.
Once the process is complete, customers will receive a confirmation email with the signed agreement after the store manager has reviewed the lease. The store manager will also reach out to the customer to welcome them and answer any questions.
Rapid Rental began rolling out to half of Extra Space Storage’s self storage properties on June 22.
