What can I store in a storage unit?

You can store all kinds of household and business items in a storage unit at Extra Space Storage. There are many uses for self storage, including moving to a new home, running a business, making space in a small home, and more.

A few examples of items that CAN be kept in self storage include:

  • Household Items: Furniture, appliances, home decor, electronics, clothing, books and magazines, artwork, keepsakes and collectibles, musical instruments, moving boxes, etc.

  • Business Items: Retail inventory, contracting tools and equipment, business documents and files, construction materials, company cars and work trucks, etc.

  • Vehicles: Cars, motorcycles, boats, campers, trailers, RVs, etc.

A few examples of items that CANNOT be kept in self storage include:

  • Living Things: Animals, plants, yourself.

  • Perishable Items: Boxed food, refrigerated food, frozen food, etc.

  • Hazardous Items: Drugs, ammunition, gas, propane tanks, car batteries, etc.

  • Vehicles: Any vehicle that's unregistered, uninsured, and not in working condition.
