I would strongly caution anyone considering storing their belongings at Extra Space Storage. We stored our personal belongings at this facility expecting them to be kept in a reasonably safe and secure environment. Instead, our belongings were severely damaged and destroyed by rats. The situation was so bad that we later discovered a rat had actually gotten into our car, and we had to have it professionally removed. The amount of damage, stress, and inconvenience this caused was unbelievable. We lost personal property, had to deal with the aftermath of a rodent infestation, and then had the added expense and distress of dealing with a rat in our vehicle. What made the experience even worse was the response afterward. Despite the extent of the damage, we received no meaningful compensation for our destroyed belongings. After paying for storage specifically to protect our property, we were left dealing with the losses ourselves. I understand that problems can happen anywhere, but how a company responds when something this serious occurs says a lot. In our experience, the response did not come close to addressing the damage we suffered. I would never store my belongings here again, and I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this facility carefully inspect the conditions and ask detailed questions about pest control, responsibility for rodent damage, and what protection you actually have if your belongings are damaged. A storage facility is supposed to protect your property — not leave you with belongings destroyed by rodents and a rat in your car.
