Honest Review We had the largest storage unit Extra Space Storage in Troy had to offer, and I have to say, the unit itself was great. It was very clean, spacious, and roomy enough to fit everything we needed. I also really liked that the facility was gated and required a code to get in, and they offered an app for added convenience. Those were all definite positives! Unfortunately, the biggest downside was the constant and significant increase in the monthly price. When we first rented the unit, we were paying around $200 a month. Then it went up to $211, then $291, and eventually they tried to charge us $371 all within the year we had the unit. When we questioned the increases, we could never seem to get a straight answer as to why the price was going up so dramatically. Another thing to mention is that getting in and out of the facility with a U-Haul, moving truck, or truck and trailer can be extremely difficult. The layout makes maneuvering larger vehicles a real challenge, especially when other customers are there. If you're planning on storing large items or using a moving truck or trailer, that's definitely something I would consider beforehand. Once we decided enough was enough and told them we were moving our belongings out, we were told that it would be documented. We even called three additional times to make sure everything was noted, yet somehow it was never documented. Overall, I really liked the facility itself, the cleanliness, space, security, and accessibility, but the customer service experience was extremely disappointing. The lack of clear communication, the unexplained price increases, and the fact that we repeatedly had to call about the same issue made the experience very frustrating. I would recommend the facility based on the storage space and security, but I would strongly encourage anyone considering renting here to keep a close eye on your monthly rate, ask questions about potential increases, and consider how difficult it may be to maneuver a larger vehicle or trailer around the property. For us, the dramatic price increases and poor customer service ultimately outweighed the positives and were the reason we decided to move our belongings elsewhere.
