I’m a local Indianapolis resident and have been an Extra Space Storage customer for two years. I store several of my motorcycles here along with other things and was told I could leave my car while riding. I had done that for two years without being required to leave a note on it. But all of a sudden On September 11, my car was towed. The explanation I received was that I hadn’t left a note & was blocking the emergency exit which is always blocked anyway. Why was that suddenly a requirement, and why wasn’t it communicated to me? It’s a camera right there that shows me coming and going each time. Staff know me and my vehicle. I pay my rent in person most of the time. This really hurt my trust and inconvenience my bill spending budget. But before you judge, Here’s why this parking arrangement matters the gate closes at 10 p.m., and sometimes I don’t get off work until 5 or 6 p.m. That gives me a short window to come get my motorcycle and try to ride the junk of the day away, those bike rides are some of the only peace I have in this world, and to come back and your car is gone after enjoying an evening ride, shook me! Plus it sucks to return after 10pm & the gate is closed for the day. I leave my car so I can drive home afterward and not get hit by a car at night on that dark road & to get to work the next morning. September mornings in Indiana can be much colder than the evenings. Having a motorcycle doesn’t make losing access to my car a minor inconvenience. I filed a complaint on September 28 and have contacted corporate multiple times. As of October 8, I still have no resolution, and the regional manager has not returned ANY of my calls. My rent has increased, but I can’t get a clear response about why a parking arrangement I was told was allowed resulted in my car being towed at my expense. I want reimbursement for my towing costs, a written explanation, and clear parking rules going forward. I have tried to resolve this directly. If management continues leaving this unanswered, I intend to take my complaint to the Better Business Bureau and the Indiana Attorney General’s office. This affected my transportation to work and cost me money. It deserves more than unanswered calls.
We understand you have a question about the parking rules, towing, and reimbursement. We’re sorry this affected your transportation and trust. Please contact us at (317) 662-2133 so we can review your concerns and work toward a resolution.
