There are 2 elevators in the building. The large freight in back used to break down every few years but the new company Extra Space Storage is managing that better than the former company did. There is a small elevator on the other side of the building that is accessed by a few stairs so people complained when they had to use that. Its a beautiful historical building that's safe and the staff from ESS are decent as this company has generally good standard employees. They've taken away some of the convenient elements of the old storage like meeting rooms or multiple bathrooms in trying to maximize space but they've done a nice job of improvements like new bay doors and cleaning up the vent system and there's no rodents or bugs. I would say the location is convenient especially if you travel and want to get off the MBTA and go to your storage There is plenty of parking and a restroom employees can open for customers. There's 2 loading ramps and they just got more small carts to transport items (the old company had large carts and unusual transport devices for specific furniture but I don't see that around now). They installed carpet squares on the floor which I disagree with as the floors were the easiest to keep clean of any storage I've ever had and these aren't going to be easy to keep clean as its not actively done. However, it has improved the climate control in winter. Mold in this building isnt a concern on the 1st or 3rd floors especially as in other storage buildings if you have allergies or sensitivities as always mold sufferers should always stay clear of basements in any building. Be warned there's a nut packaging factory one block down and if you have airborne allergies I myself have had to work around this especially near the holidays (hopefully one day they will relocate to a more industrial area). This location has one emergency exit near the small elevator, the main entrance near office, as well as two bay doors and it has excellent solid stairwells if the elevators are out on both sides of the building. I've had storages with that locked in feeling if there's an emergency and I didn't like it. This feels practical and sensible. It's a nice location that's managed well with access to multiple public transportation and stores, a few hotels and convenient to different neighborhoods. They've got a construction project in limbo out in front and it will eventually become a hotel and a life sciences building but the storage is staying there.
