Very disappointed with the level of security and the way this situation was handled. I’m paying almost $200 a month for my storage unit, and I expect a reasonable level of security for that price. Yesterday, I went to the facility and discovered that the last access gate was completely open and did not require an access code. After speaking with other customers, I was told that the gate had apparently been open since Saturday. When I called, I was told it was related to a power outage and that nobody could come to fix it until Monday. Today, Monday, I called again and was told they were still waiting for someone to assess the problem. I was also told that this apparently happens frequently when it rains. If that is true, this is extremely concerning. How many times have these gates been left open during bad weather over the past few months, and for how long? They advertise security, but CCTV cameras are not much protection if an access gate can remain completely open for days. I have no way of knowing who had access to the facility while the gate was open or whether my belongings were actually secure. What is even more disappointing is that, after raising this serious security concern, the only solutions they offered me were a $25 discount or the option to leave. That is not an acceptable response when I am paying nearly $200 a month and the facility cannot provide the level of security I am paying for. At this point, it feels like I’m paying almost $200 a month for little more than a space and a lock. I expected much better security, communication, and customer service. Very disappointing.
