Bluffton self storage at 181 Carolina Bluff Dr

We've been there about 8 months and the setup was easy and access was good. The quality quickly went down with missing carts, employees that didn't care at all, and a very dirty place. This is a Story of redemption, however, as changes appear to have been made and the new staff is on top of it, helpful and very engaged. The place is super clean now. It goes to show your forward facing employees are very very important ! Would highly recommend at this juncture.

My initial contact with Extra Space Storage was thru their website. Detailed information of the services they provide, photo's of their facilities, etc. Availability of units was accurate. I contacted them by phone to ask a few questions, and was answered by professional, knowledgeable, courteous personnel. Arrived at facility, met Kevin and he walked me through the process. I can't thank him enough. The facility inside and out was immaculate.

I rented online and when I came through the office for the first time to see if I needed a lock, Alexis and Rhys were very kind and helpful. It's refreshing to have customer service that makes you feel at ease somewhere new. Will definitely recommend to any friends who need a storage unit.

This place is a hot MESS. I arrived mid day and the alarm was going off, the gate to get into the facility was wide open all day. Bathrooms are always overflowing with trash and unkempt. Someone left an unwanted couch and end table in front of the mechanical room and blocking the fire alarm. Another time my husband arrived to find the entryway metal awning was hit by something, looking very unsafe. I understand there are issues that arise and it may take time to fix but send an email to people letting them know the facilities are closed for maintenance or whatever may be appropriate. The photo below is the only entryway into the building, other than possible emergency exits. This being said it is very convenient to book the storage facility and customer service on the phone handles things quickly and are helpful. The issue seems to be this particular location, not extra space corporate.

This facility was convenient to get to from my apartment when I needed to and to get my items out when moving into my new home. A couple issues I had were with the gate not opening properly on a Sunday so both myself and a car behind me had to wait for an incoming car to put in his code to get the gate to open and then it would only open a few feet at a time so he had to keep entering his code for us to get out. There also appears to be some dead bugs along some of the corners of some units. Then the last day I was trying to get the last items out of my unit, there were about 4 trucks inside the gate and another 3 waiting to get in. I ended up going back late in the day but if someone was on a time constraint, it would’ve been bad. When I did go back, there were no carts on the ground floor so the manager and I searched the floors for carts. She found two on another floor, fortunately, but pathetic that people were too lazy to return them to the ground floor or took them or hid them in their units.

Great customer service. The whole rental process was quick and efficient. Highly recommend this facility!

Huge shoutout to Alexis for being such a big help when I couldn't get into my unit. Always a great experience and very friendly. Love how clean the property always is.
