I stored my personal house contents in July in an AC unit with an internal door access. During the sign up process, I was not advised that the unit/building had a rodent or cockroach issue. Today, just a bit more than three months later, we unloaded the unit into our moving trucks and saw cockroaches running around in the unit and evidence of rodents. I went to the office and began to share what we were seeing and the office personnel said, “Yeah, we have a kill room in that building.” I asked if I could reimbursed for having my whole house contents infected with this. She glanced at her computer and said “No, you don’t have insurance.” I explained my understanding was insurance was for water damage, fire, plus I carry renters insurance. I said when I signed up, no one told me you had a rodent problem and that I would need to consider insurance in lieu of your rodent problem. She shrugged her shoulders as if to say oh well. I paid a considerable amount of money to have my contents stored at this location, understanding that they were going to be protected and the very casual way she acknowledged the infestation in the unit and said there was nothing she could do about, was not acceptable customer service. Be aware if you’re considering this location for storing your goods that you too, may have the contents in which are being stored exposed/infested with rodents, their droppings and/or cockroaches….and the storage company won’t care.
