I’m giving Extra Space Storage 1 star due to a disappointing experience with the billing and communication surrounding my unit. I was not clearly informed about what the regular post-promotional rate would be once my introductory promotion ended. More importantly, I was charged the full monthly amount even though I only needed the unit for approximately one week after the promotional period. The situation was not something I had planned. I unexpectedly had a weekend become available where I was able to move everything out, but the payment for the upcoming period had already gone through the week before. I contacted the facility expecting there to be some reasonable consideration given that the unit was no longer being used, but I was still charged for the full amount. From my perspective, this feels like double-dipping—charging the full amount for a unit that was only actually needed for about a week, particularly when the circumstances allowed me to vacate sooner than expected. My biggest issue is not simply the money; it’s the lack of transparency and flexibility. Customers should be made fully aware of what their rate will become after a promotional period, and there should be clearer communication regarding billing when a unit is vacated shortly after a payment is processed. This allows the company to then rent it out to another individual to then receive double payment on one unit. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Extra Space Storage. I would strongly encourage anyone considering renting a unit to carefully ask about the exact post-promotional rate, billing dates, and cancellation/refund policies before signing up
