I moved into a unit at the North Haven location of Extra Space Storage in August after having a bad experience with another storage facility in New Haven. Initially I had a very positive impression of this location. The facility itself is clean, well maintained, and conveniently located, which is why I chose to move my belongings here. However, after my promotional period ended, my monthly rent increased significantly from the original rate to around $140 per month with taxes and insurance. This was a much larger increase than I expected for a small unit that I mainly use to store luggage and a painting. More concerning, I recently discovered rat feces both inside my storage unit and directly outside of it. I have photo and video documentation of this. I reported the issue to the on-site manager, who suggested filing an insurance claim and having exterminators come out. While I appreciate the willingness to address the pest issue, finding rodent droppings inside a paid storage unit is understandably very concerning. I do want to say that the staff has been polite and the facility itself is otherwise nice, which is why I’m hoping this situation can be resolved. I’ve reached out to corporate customer service to see if they can help address both the sanitation issue and the unexpected rent increase. I’m hoping Extra Space Storage can make this right, because I would prefer to continue using this location if the concerns are properly resolved.
