I have been using Extra Space Storage for years across multiple cities (LA, SF, Chicago) and have always been a huge fan of their clean facilities, friendly staff, and helpful services like package acceptance. Unfortunately, my experience at this Fort Myers location over the past year has been highly disappointing due to unexpected price hikes and pests. Drastic Price Hikes: I started with a 9x10 unit at $35/month with Ralph. After two months, it jumped to $81. By month eight, it spiked to $151. When I called support to ask why I was being charged $70 more when the same unit is listed online for $60, they refused to match or keep my previous $81 rate. Ralph shared that this fee will be moving fwd, that since I moved prior to the date I should be okay. Yet what a price increase! Communication Breakdown: Customer service claimed they mailed a rate increase notice to my old Washington State address. When I signed up, I explicitly told the branch staff that I live in Spain and needed all communication via email. My daughter might visit the unit, but all financial with me. They assured me this wouldn't be an issue, yet they failed to email me. Furthermore, I checked my Washington mail today, and no notice was ever delivered there anyway. Rodent Issues: This climate-controlled indoor unit has a mouse/rodent infestation. I have attached video evidence of a rodent eating through one of my boxes. I expected the usual high standard from Extra Space Storage.
