I have had a storage unit at this facility since 2010. Over the past 16 years, the facility has been owned by 3 different entities. Extra Space Storage took over in June of 2023. During the first 11 years, I paid one price, no increases. The second owner raised the price once, by 10%. Since Extra Space Storage took over 3 years ago, they have sent me FIVE price increases. The local manager (MICHELLE IS WONDERFUL) has challenged the increases for me each time to minimize the increases, but they have tried to increase the cost by nearly DOUBLE in 3 years. Two months ago, I discovered that my storage unit was broken into. I had MANY THOUSANDS of dollars of possessions stolen, including 3 saddles, 2 of which I have had since I was a teenager (I'm now 68 years old). 15+ boxes of items saved for a yard sale were stolen. More than $1,000 in new Pampered Chef products were stolen. And I know there is more that I haven't even discovered yet. No one alerted me to the break-in because there are no security cameras. They simply broke the lock, stole everything, put a new lock on and drove out. Now TWO MONTHS LATER, I have received my FIFTH rate increase. The manager was unable to convince the company that an increase when I have lost most of the contents of my storage unit might be INAPPROPRIATE and UNETHICAL. The company's excuse for raising rates so frequently is that they have to "keep up with the market." Well yeah ... when you buy up ALL the local storage facilities and their rates increase, you have total control of ALL the increases. Can we say MONOPOLY? Can we say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT??? The extra fun thing is there is no phone number to reach the company. They funnel you to the local facility because they recognize your phone number in the system. My next step is to inventory the unit as best I can and MOVE OUT. I have never been so angry at a company in my life.
Thank you for the kind words, Dana. We're glad Michelle was able to help with your rate! Our team is here to serve you, so give us a call at (505) 395-5672 if you need any future assistance.
