I had a bad experience in this facility due to Owner/Landlord/Management neglect. At first glance, this looks like a very well kept and clean facility. After I filled a 10x10 space, I noticed wood shavings falling from the ceiling above my unit, which turned out to be rodent droppings and nest material. I notified management at the front desk and several weeks had gone by without any communication from them. I went back to the office and again told them of the wood shavings, that were now accompanied by rodent feces both solid and liquid (urine). Also, the accompanying horrible odor in my unit and on my belongings. Absolutely disgusting. They said they had not noticed anything. I brought them to the unit so they could see the wood shavings. Their response was to hand me a cheap piece of clear plastic sheathing to put atop the unit. In the mean time, a good deal of damage occurred from the sticky rodent urine that had sprayed into the unit from above. A QSC PA speaker and a few canvas bags (that hold musical equipment) that had to be thrown out. Fortunately, the damage was localized and contained to one spot in the unit. I was able to put the clear plastic sheathing over my unit, no thanks to the guy at the front desk who refused to even lift a finger, or lend a hand or let me use their ladder, quoting liability issues. The guy was very rude actually and said he did not want to go “tit for tat” with me about my issues. I don’t know who trains the guys at the front desk which is the face of this operation, but clearly customer satisfaction is not a priority here. After a few days, You could see the accumulating rodent feces on top of the plastic. Again, I notified them that this needs to be looked into, and showed the guy at the front desk the situation. But again, more time went by without a response from upper management, ownership, or any corporate office, taking any responsibility. I now have now have damages as well as a lingering issue with rodent droppings on top of my unit. I called Extra Space Storage corporate office and they were able to facilitate a unit switch for me, which I did ASAP. After many visits to the unit, I fortunately met a different person at the front desk (Nick) and with his help, the landlord was notified and kept abreast of the situation. Nick actually called me back to keep me posted on progress, which I appreciated very much. The landlord finally sent a crew out to examine the problem above my unit. It was determined that there was an old conduit pipe that somehow rodents were using, resulting in nesting material and feces dropping out of that conduit. Again, more time going by to affect any solution or repairs. Finally, a crew showed up and filled the conduit and other adjacent conduits hanging over other units. There may be more in the facility. Apparently, there is a pet store above this facility and in between the floor of the pet store and the ceiling of the Extra Space Storage facility, there appears to be serious rodent problem. I’m not sure if the health department is aware, but its not a great situation. My new unit is a distance away from my original unit, with no conduits hanging over it, so I should be okay at this point. My only issue is the damages to my PA speaker and the few bags that I had try to wash but that urine smell is impossible to get out and I had to toss them. Not a whole lot of damages. But I spent at least 50 hours going through my unit, cleaning things, and then having to switch units. It was a lot of time wasted that I should not have had to deal with. Overall, a bad experience and a bad look for this facility. I hope to be contacted back by the owners (Regency) who are definitely aware of the whole issue. At a minimum I would expect to be reimbursed for the minimal expense to my belongings, not to mention all of the time spent trying to ameliorate the situation. I left a message for them today. Lets see if they respond and I would be happy to add to the review.
