Review for Extra Space Storage – Hazel Dell, WA At first glance, this facility appears to be a great choice – it's clean, well-maintained, has elevators for convenience, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are security cameras and coded access, which initially gave me peace of mind. However, don’t be fooled by the appearance of tight security. The cameras are only positioned at the building entrances and do not cover individual units or hallways. Unfortunately, my unit was broken into, and the facility is now "reviewing the limited footage" to try and identify who did it. This experience has shown me that the security here is more of a false sense of security than actual protection. If you do decide to rent here, I strongly recommend using an additional high-security lock and do not store anything of significant value. It’s disappointing to realize that despite all the visible safety measures, the facility is vulnerable – and renters are ultimately left to deal with the consequences. Follow-up, no Updates.. * Severe Structural Security Flaws The physical security here is an illusion. The corrugated metal walls separating the storage units do not reach the ceiling; there is a massive open gap at the top. A thief can simply rent a unit, stand on a ladder or box, and window-shop over the walls to see exactly who has high-value items. Once they target your unit, they cut your lock, clear out your belongings, and put their own lock on your door so the facility staff doing walk-throughs won't even notice a break-in occurred. * Hidden Break-ins and Zero Transparency When my unit was burglarized, facility staff reviewed their cameras and told me the suspect had actually been identified and caught. However, management dispersed absolutely zero information to the rest of the customers to warn them that a thief was actively operating inside the building. They had critical intelligence about a perpetrator targeting units and chose to keep everyone in the dark rather than protect their tenants. * Impossible Customer Service If you try to escalate these massive security failures to corporate, you will hit a brick wall. I recently tried to submit a formal concern to corporate through their online chat support. The representative explicitly refused to create a support ticket or pass along my complaint unless I provided personal, account-linking information. There is no mechanism to anonymously report a severe security vulnerability or file a general grievance. If you don't give them your data, they refuse to log your ticket, meaning critical complaints are suppressed before corporate ever sees them. * Constant Price Increases for Zero Protection To top it all off, the biggest downside of renting here is the constant price increases. They will continuously hike up your monthly rent, blaming inflation, but clearly, none of that extra money is going toward upgrading their flawed open-ceiling architecture or adding sufficient camera coverage down the unit hallways.
