Reserving a Storage Unit

Do you offer self storage sales and promotions?

Yes, Extra Space Storage offers great self storage deals! Some facilities offer first month free or first month half-off promotions when you rent a storage unit. We also have military discounts available at select locations.

Why are you adding kiosks to your stores?

Extra Space Storage is adding kiosks to our stores to improve the self storage experience. Our kiosks offer customers convenient features outside of our storage facility’s office hours and allow customers to make storage unit reservations without the assistance of our staff.

Do you have kiosks at every location?

No, kiosks are only available at select locations. Check with the Extra Space Storage team at your storage facility to see if kiosks are available to use.

Can I complete my rental with a store manager after starting at a kiosk?

Yes, you can complete your rental with a store manager after starting at a kiosk. Similar to our Rapid Rental process, customers will be asked to complete the “Personal Info” section at a kiosk. After this is filled out, a facility manager can find your information and continue booking your storage unit in person. If your kiosk times out or you want help finishing your rental with one of our self storage experts, just ask for assistance.

What are the different timeline options for renting a storage unit?

There are plenty of different timeline options for you to choose from when renting a storage unit with Extra Space Storage. Storage units can be reserved 14 days in advance of your move-in day. We have short-term and long-term leases available, as well as month-to-month rental options.

Do I get a move-in truck with my rental?

Some Extra Space Storage facilities offer moving trucks for customers to use when moving into self storage units. Check with the facility to learn more about move-in truck availability.

How do I unreserve a storage unit?

If you reserved a storage unit that you no longer need, please contact your Extra Space Storage facility manager to cancel your reservation. For any additional assistance, reach out to our customer service team.

I rented the wrong storage unit. What do I do?

If you rented or reserved the wrong storage unit, we recommend that you contact your Extra Space Storage facility manager to discuss your options. If you’re unable to reach the facility manager, give our customer service team a call.

Do you allow 18-wheelers in vehicle storage?

Some Extra Space Storage facilities may allow 18-wheelers to be stored in outdoor vehicle parking spaces. Contact the facility manager to discuss available vehicle storage options.

Are storage units month to month?

Yes! We rent our storage units on a month-to-month basis to give you the flexibility to rent for whatever amount of time makes sense for you.

Are long-term storage solutions offered?

If you’re in need of a long-term storage solution, we work with customers who have long-term self storage needs and allow you to prepay on a yearly basis (12 months). We also rent our storage units on a month-to-month basis. This allows our customers the flexibility to rent as long as necessary.

Is my price guaranteed for as long as I rent?

Extra Space Storage works hard to provide value for our customers through competitive pricing and by maintaining clean, safe, and secure facilities with the best customer service in the self storage industry. Please keep in mind that your original monthly rate is not guaranteed for the life of your rental with Extra Space Storage. From time to time, we adjust our customers’ rental rates to keep up with the rising costs associated with providing top-notch service and a clean, secure facility.

What are the terms of a lease?

Your rental with us can be long or short, depending on your needs. Monthly rent is due each month on the anniversary of your rental start date. For your convenience, we offer many payment options, including the option to pre-pay for up to twelve months of rent. When you are ready to vacate, we require ten days verbal OR 15 days written notice before vacating. If you advise the rental office of your intention to vacate before paying your final month, we will prorate your last month of rent, so you pay only for what you use.

What payment options are available?

Extra Space Storage strives to make your storage experience as convenient as possible, including paying your bill. Monthly payments can be made in store, online, by phone (888-STORAGE), or by mailing us a check. In-store payments can be made with cash, check, or credit card. We can help you set up automatically withdrawn payments each month from your credit card or checking account. Payments can be made online in the “My Account” section.

Do you offer earthquake insurance?

No, Extra Space Storage does not offer earthquake insurance separately from its general insurance options. However, you may have earthquake coverage through your homeowners or renters insurance. Check your policy to see what these forms of insurance cover.

Will homeowners or renters insurance cover storage units?

Homeowners and renters insurance typically include off-premises coverage that covers belongings in a storage unit. This coverage can be pretty limited, though, so going through your homeowners or renters insurance policy isn’t always the best option when storing possessions that add up to a significant total value.

Move-In Day

Can I move my storage unit?

Yes, you can move storage units at your Extra Space Storage facility. Contact your facility manager to make arrangements to move to another storage unit.

Can I downgrade my current storage unit?

Yes, you can downgrade your current storage unit if the size and/or features you need are available. Contact your facility manager to make arrangements to move storage units.

Can I upgrade to a different storage unit?

Yes, you can upgrade to a different storage unit if the size and/or features you need are available. Contact your facility manager to make arrangements to move to a different storage unit.

What should I expect when I arrive at the facility for the first time? 

Welcome to Extra Space! We’re happy to have you with us. Here are a few items to keep in mind to make your first trip to your storage space a positive experience! If you rented online, you can access your unit right away, just remember to bring your gate code to the facility. If you have questions or concerns, our store managers are available during office hours to assist you, all you have to do is give them a call. They’re also available to help you rent the unit if you made a reservation. We look forward to seeing you around!

What do I need to have the day I move in?

If you’ve decided to insure your items outside of the insurance policies offered by Extra Space Storage, you will need to have a copy of your insurance policy, declaration, or the like when you move in. You’re also required to provide your own lock for your storage unit. If you forget to bring a lock or need items, such as boxes, packing tape, or move-in kits on move-in day, all of those and more are available for purchase at each of our storage facilities.

Do I need my own lock?

Yes, you provide your lock. The best lock for our storage units is typically a disc lock, and we have them available at our locations if you forget or would prefer to purchase yours through us.
