I honestly despise bringing this to Google, but after receiving no meaningful resolution from corporate, I feel I have no choice. I was initially told by Joan that the facility does not provide 24-hour access - which was a lie - then informed by her that it was “manager discretion.” Laurie then told me that my reason for wanting 24-hour access to my belongings was “stupid.” I was shocked. My storage unit is code-activated, so rather than addressing the access issue by updating my access code in the system, I was told I would have to rent a new unit in order to obtain the access I was requesting. Which seem ludicrous as it would require me to move my things. When I questioned the reasoning and reached out to corporate again, they contacted me to a black manager who told me, “that people break into units.” I don't understand how that was relevant to my individual request, particularly in a facility that has security measures as you need a gate code and security cameras. Therefore, it would appear with deductive reasoning that I wasn’t given 24 hour access to due to the hue of my skin and stereotypes. When I ultimately said I would be moving my belongings out, Laurie chuckled. The combination of the arbitrary explanations, the dismissive treatment, the comment calling my request “stupid,” and the lack of any meaningful attempt to resolve the issue left me feeling that I was being treated unfairly. These are two prejudice white women who felt the need to assert their authority over my personal property as managers- how fitting and discriminatory. Don’t rent here as this was a major injustice.
