Your bike deserves a good home between seasons. 🏍️ The right motorcycle storage keeps it protected, ready to ride, and looking its best when it's time to ride again.

Price depends on location, size, and time of year. On average, monthly storage starts as low as $44 in Houston and around $266 in Brooklyn. It’s the same bike in a very different market. A 5x10 storage unit fits most standard bikes and is one of the most affordable options. Cruisers and touring bikes usually need a 10x20.

Classic or custom build? Indoor motorcycle storage is the best choice for vintage bikes, custom builds, and anything with chrome or temperature-sensitive parts. It’s ideal for winter and long-term storage, and prices start around $91/mo depending on location.

Whether you’re storing for the season or the long haul, finding the right fit makes all the difference. Let us know your zip code, and our team will help you find motorcycle storage near you.

What size storage unit do you need for a 1 bedroom apartment? For most one-bedroom apartments, a 5x10 or 5x15 storage unit is the right size. Here’s how to choose between the two.

5x10 storage unit (50 sq. ft.): About the size of a mid-sized walk-in closet. A good fit if you live alone and are storing the basics, like a mattress, dresser, small couch, and boxes. It holds about one bedroom’s worth of items.

5x15 storage unit (75 sq. ft.): About the size of a large walk-in closet. A good fit if you’re storing appliances like a refrigerator, washer, and dryer, or storing long-term and plan to rotate items in and out. The extra 25 square feet helps couples and anyone moving out of a larger one-bedroom apartment.

Side note: For studio and college apartments, a 5x10 storage unit is almost always enough.

Still not sure which storage unit size is right for your one bedroom? Tell us about your move, and we can help you find the best fit.

Most people load their storage unit in the wrong order. Don't be like most people. Use these storage unit packing tips to save space and still reach everything later.

How to pack a storage unit (properly)...

✅ Start with heavy items on the bottom: Load appliances, heavy boxes, and dense items first, and keep them low. This creates a stable base for everything else.

✅ Place furniture along the walls: Put larger furniture against the walls of your storage unit. Disassemble bed frames and remove table legs to free up floor space.

✅ Stack boxes from floor to ceiling: Stack boxes on top of your base layer. Uniform box and container sizes maximize vertical space in your storage unit.

✅ Leave a path to the door: Keep a walkway from the front of the unit to the back so you can reach your belongings without unpacking everything.

How do you like to pack your storage unit? Give us all your tips!

Wondering how to store furniture in a storage unit? Follow these four tips to keep your pieces in the same condition they were in when you put them in.

1. Wrap furniture properly: Use moving blankets for most furniture. Use breathable covers for wood and upholstered furniture. Remove cushions and store them separately.

2. Disassemble when possible: Take apart bed frames, remove table legs, and break down larger pieces to free up floor space in your storage unit.

3. Arrange your storage unit: Place larger furniture against the walls. Store big items upright instead of flat to save space and reduce damage.

4. Choose climate-controlled storage: Climate control is one of the most important decisions for long-term furniture storage, especially during months with extreme heat, cold, or humidity. It’s recommended for wood furniture, antiques, and items with sentimental or financial value.

Wondering how to store clothes in a storage unit? These clothing storage tips help keep your items fresh, wrinkle-free, and ready to wear.

Short-term clothing storage: Vacuum storage bags compress clothes and save space. They work best for synthetic fabrics. Avoid them for wool, silk, and leather.

Long-term clothing storage (6+ months): Use non-airtight lidded plastic bins. They let fabric breathe and help protect clothes over time.

Hanging clothes: Wardrobe boxes keep dresses, suits, and coats upright and wrinkle-free.

Folded clothes: Non-airtight plastic storage bins are the best choice for sweaters, jeans, and everyday wear.

Organization tip: Label every bin by season or category so you can find what you need without unpacking your whole storage unit.

Storing bedding and baby clothes: Comforters, sheets, and pillows can be stored the same way. For keepsake baby clothes, label bins by age or size so you can find them easily later.

How to store a rug in a storage unit so it comes out looking as good as it went in:

✅ Clean it first. Vacuum or spot-clean so dirt and moisture don’t get sealed in.
✅ Roll it pile-side in. That keeps the delicate fibers protected. Roll tight and evenly to avoid creases.
✅ Wrap it in breathable material. Skip the plastic, because it can trap moisture and lead to mold or mildew.
✅ Secure it. Tie it with rope or heavy-duty twine so it stays rolled during the move.
✅ Store it upright. Stand it against a wall with space of its own so it holds its shape.

These rug storage tips work for oriental, Persian, wool and antique rugs too. If it’s a very high-value piece, talk to a rug specialist before you store it.

What kind of rug are you storing? Tell us in the comments.

Here's how to store artwork or framed photos in your storage unit to keep everything clean and safe from damage:

1. Use corner protectors and breathable fabric for framed pieces. Corner protectors protect frames from bumps, while breathable fabric shields the glass without trapping moisture against the surface.

2. Store framed pieces upright against the wall. Give each piece its own space, with packing material in between. The same rules apply to unframed canvas pieces, but wrap them in acid-free paper first.

3. Choose climate control for oil paintings, watercolors, and higher-value pieces. Our climate-controlled units protect your most valuable pieces from temperature and humidity swings.

How to store a couch or sofa in a storage unit: Just follow these five essential steps...

1. Disassemble what you can. Separating cushions, legs, and any removable parts helps reduce the space the piece takes up.

2. Wrap the frame in moving blankets. This keeps the couch clean. For leather couches, use a breathable cover so you don't trap moisture against the surface.

3. Store the couch upright on its end. This is the best way to store a couch and saves a lot of space.

4. For sectionals, separate the pieces before placing them in the unit. This helps make each piece much easier to maneuver and store on its own.

5. Choose climate-controlled storage for long-term stays. This is especially important for leather and fabric furniture that can be affected by temperature changes over time.

Wondering how to store a mattress in a storage unit? Follow these steps to keep your mattress clean, protected, and ready whenever you need it.

1. Start with a mattress bag.
Place your mattress in a mattress bag and seal it up to keep it clean and protected from dust, moisture, and pests while it's in storage.

2. Store it flat whenever possible.
When putting your mattress in the unit, storing it flat is ideal. This keeps the internal structure intact and helps the mattress hold its shape, which is especially important for foam mattresses. If you're only storing for a short time and don't have much space, spring mattresses can be stored on their side. Latex mattresses, however, should always be stored unrolled and flat.

3. Plan your layout for bed frames and toppers.
If you're storing a bed frame and topper along with your mattress, place the bed frame to the side of the mattress against the wall. The topper can be rolled up or laid flat on top of the mattress.

4. Choose climate-controlled storage for long-term stays.
For long-term storage, a climate-controlled unit is highly recommended. It protects your mattress from temperature and humidity changes that can cause damage over time.

Not sure what size storage unit you need for your mattress? We've got you covered. 🛏️

The right size depends on your mattress and how you plan to store it:

Twin or Full
◾5x5 works if you store it on its side (best for short-term, spring mattresses only).
◾5x10 lets you store it flat, which is better for long-term storage.

Queen
◾5x10 is the right call. It fits flat with room for other items alongside it.

King or California King
◾5x10 works if you store it on its side.
◾10x10 gives you space to store it flat with breathing room.

Before you drop it off:
◾Use a mattress bag to protect against dust.
◾For long-term storage, choose a climate-controlled unit to keep your mattress in top condition.

What size mattress are you storing? Drop it in the comments, and the team at Extra Space can help you find the right unit.
