    CONTRACTOR STORAGE UNIT FAQs

Can I run a contracting business out of a storage unit?

While you may not be able to work directly out of your storage unit, some Extra Space Storage facilities offer affordable office space for rent. Contact us to learn more!

Can I work in a storage unit?

Although you can’t work in your storage unit, select locations offer workshop storage units where you can actually work inside your unit. Be sure to contact the facility manager to learn about availability or if this use is allowed at the location.

How much square footage do I need for contractor storage?

The amount of square footage you need for contractor storage depends on the items you plan to store. Smaller items, such as business documents and construction materials, often work well in our standard storage unit sizes, which range from 5x5 to 10x30. If, however, you have large items to store, you might want to look into warehouse storage options that are 10x40 and larger.

Where should large, heavy items be stored?

Extra Space Storage has multiple options for storing large, heavy items. Our drive-up storage units come in a wide range of sizes and make loading and unloading bulky items simpler by allowing you to pull right up to your unit. We also have oversized warehouse storage units that start as small as 400 square feet, providing plenty of space for large materials and equipment.
