No, working inside a storage unit is prohibited. However, you can use a storage unit to keep work equipment and materials organized and safe when not in use.

Does insurance cover tools in a storage unit?

Extra Space Storage's Customer Protection Plan covers tools and other belongings in your unit. Give us a call to learn more! If you're using a third-party insurance policy instead, check with your provider to confirm your tools are covered while in storage. Either way, insurance is required for all renters.

What size unit do I need for contractor equipment?

The amount of square footage you need for contractor storage depends on the items you plan to store. Smaller items, such as business documents and construction materials, often work well in our standard storage unit sizes, which range from 5x5 to 10x30. If, however, you have large items to store, you might want to look into warehouse storage options that are 10x40 and larger.

Where should large, heavy items be stored?

Extra Space Storage has multiple options for storing large, heavy items. Our drive-up storage units come in a wide range of sizes and make loading and unloading bulky items simpler by allowing you to pull right up to your unit. You can store fuel-powered equipment in a storage unit, but you must fully drain the fuel before storing. Storing equipment with fuel still in it is a safety hazard.
